Rather than having a counterproductive thread, I thought it'd be better to focus on what we actually like in genres we're not usually fond of. Ok, spreading the hatred is much more fun but, in the end, there's no point in doing it except to piss people who like the bands. So this thread is dedicated to albums you liked in genres you don't. No hate here, just love! And I'm starting with Black Metal, a genre I have a hard time liking. That said, I found Emperor's Prometheus to be a terrific album. Some will probably argue Emperor wasn't really a BM band anymore on Prometheus and, since it's about the only BM album I ever loved, it could be true. Anyway, it's the BM I love. |

I'm not into goth metal at all but I always thought Bloody Kisses was badass. |

Hating genres seems dumb. Folk: Equilibrium - Sagas, both of Hollenthon's albums, Power: Blind Guardian - Twilight Hall, Angra - Holy Land Metalcore: maybe BTBAM or PtH... Deathcore: iwrestledabearonce - It's All Happening Nu Metal: a few Static X songs Rap: Immortal Technique Vol. 2 Drone: Dark Castle - Spirited Migration (it's real doomy alas) |

Prometheus is just an unbelievable metal album. I don't 'hate' or even really dislike any metal genre, but I don't listen to much current Thrash or Prog; Ironbound and Anubis Gate's 'The Detached' are excellent exceptions though. |

Skepticism's Farmakon and Worphlegm's Tomb of the ancent King, redefined what it means to be 'funeral doom'. I find the genre needlessly boring and weak, but those albums are atmospheric and carry on without being boring in any sort. Blind Guardian Imaginations from the other side and Manticora's Hyperion also helped my conception of power metal, as they're both fast and interesting and don't fall into the cheesy cliche many bands do. |

I think we need to talk further about this. But totally agreed on Manticora and Blind Guardian |

Although I don't really like a lot of country, I absolutely fucking love Dwight Yoakam. I have his greatest hits - Last Chance for a Thousand Years. |

Metalcore - Shadows Fall - Of One Blood - it sounds amateurish and at times wrong but I really enjoy listening to it. Nu-Metal - a couple of Slipknot and SOAD songs Black Metal - a couple of Emperor songs from "Prometheus" (as I like Dimmu Borgir and Cradle of Filth but they aren't Black Metal). Also really like Impaled Nazarene's Blood Is Thicker Than Water though the other stuff I've heard from them didn't stick. |

I dunno, if there's an album I like from a genre, I usually don't really say I hate that genre. |

Yeah hate is a bit strong but some genres just don't work for me as others do. Never really liked any other power metal bands other than Blind Guardian. Especially "imaginations..." album. Cant think of any other genre but deathcore. I only liked a few songs from Despised Icon. edit: So far people mentioned BTBAM, Protest the Hero, Converge and Burst. There bands are wildly different from each other and cannot be put into the same genre imo. Metalcore is not the right term to describe them. However, if I assume they are metalcore, I absolutely love these bands and hate the genre. |

I agree, but the overall consensus on the forums is that Converge is metalcore, though I find it pretty much hardcore myself (except Axe to Fall maybe). |

Yeah... PtH I think is definitely metalcore albeit progressive yet the others mentioned aren't really. I'd just label Converge mathcore to lump 'em in with DEP. |

Pop music generally sucks simply because it is usually not done in a manner where the participants make the best artistic decisions because of the overt commercial nature of it. I like around 1000 pop songs though because what the artists wanted to make just happened to be what they commercially released. I like stuff like Chicago and Toto and the half dozen other projects that are related. It's a weird genre, stuff either works or o does not and for me at least it is odd to find out the common link between the stuff that does, which makes it much less arbitrary and gives reason for why a song would work so well. |
