In the 60's we had great acts like The Doors,Zeps,Cream,Hendrix and Jefferson Airplane. In the 70's we had great acts like Pink Floyd,Black Sabbath,Rainbow and 70's Judas Priest. In the 80's we had great acts like Journey,Foreigner,Toto,Iron Maiden and 80's Judas Priest. Now look what's being played on mainstream: Justin Beiber Miley Cyrus Britney Spears Nickleback(sorry Fridge but they still suck) To see American tastes in music fall short of embarrassment makes me feel all nauseated inside. The big question what happened? Why did America all of the sudden become tone deaf? Seriously I miss the days where you can turn on the radio and 99.9% of the time you got to hear a good song from a good band. Now turn on the radio here and it's 1% you hear a good song from a good band but it's usually a classic song not so much modern music. |

Did they actually play non-stop Floyd, Sabbath and Priest in the 70s or was that just part of what they played, the rest being crap that's been forgotten in the fullness of time? I think you're being a bit selective - I'm sure in 40 years' time the bands remembered will not be the Britneys and Nickelbacks. |

But who will they be? |

I have no idea. Tool, Arcade Fire, and The Mars Volta? Way too early to tell. And really, it's not like there are four bands from each decade that everyone agrees were amazing, so quite how the arguments will go when music's as fragmented genre-tically as it is now is beyond me. |

Typical asspain about pop music sucking. In the '60s, you had Bubblegum Pop In the '70s, you had Disco In the '80s, you had Synth Pop It's pretty dumb to say "AMERICAN MUSIC TASTE HAS DECLINED, YOU GUYS" (especially because I have no clue how you can objectively measure something like that) because there has always been shitty music in the mainstream. |

I was being selective for a reason. There are a ton of great bands in the 60's-80's that I didn't mention because there are too many to list. |

Like Zad said, time filtered out the awful mainstream music from the '60s-'80s and left us with a legacy of great bands from that era. The same thing will happen to this era in 20-30 years. |

Oh by the way not all disco was bad and not all synth pop was bad either. |

Probably something like Radiohead, Coldplay, Arcade Fire, White Stripes, Muse, Rise Against, Green Day (although they were originally a 90's band they had plenty of success in 2000s), and others I can think of |
