It's still not confirmed but there's about a bazillion sources that are saying he's dead and the source is good. I think it sounds legit to me. I'm really fucking bumbed. I love Type O and grew up listening to their music. They're one of the more original bands out there, and always released solid material. RIP Peter. I'm really hoping this is just a big rumor. http://www.roadrunnerrecords.com/blabbe ... mID=138519 Quote: TYPE O NEGATIVE keyboardist Josh Silver has confirmed to BLABBERMOUTH.NET that the band's frontman, Peter Steele, passed away yesterday (Wednesday, April 14) at the age of 48. No official cause of death has yet been released, but it is believed that Steele died of heart failure.
According to unconfirmed reports, Steele had been ill for days leading up to his death. Mistress Juliya (a.k.a. Juliya Chernetsky) of Fuse TV broke the news on her Twitter page last night, stating that she spoke to TYPE O NEGATIVE guitarist Kenny Hickey just before midnight New York time, and that Kenny confirmed that the rumors were true. Back in 2005, many people were shocked when they logged on to the TYPE O NEGATIVE web site and saw a gravestone with the words "[P]eter Steele - 1962 - 2005 .... Free At Last" carved on it. According to Epinions.com, there were rumors at the time that Steele was sick (with anything from cancer to AIDS), was on his deathbed, attempted suicide ... and the list goes on. Needless to say, it turned out that Steele was very much alive and the gravestone was merely a joke, albeit one the wasn't viewed as being in particularly good taste. Steele was born Petrus T. Ratajczyk on January 4, 1962 in Brooklyn, New York. He stood 6' 7" (201 cm) tall, and had a low, bass-heavy voice, which was one of the most recognizable features in TYPE O NEGATIVE's music. Before forming TYPE O NEGATIVE, Steele played for the metal group FALLOUT and the thrash band CARNIVORE. |

They were playing some Type O on the Howard Stern show this morning saying that he had passed away. Never got into their music, but I saw them 2 summers ago at Heavy MTL and they put on a good show. Not to mention Carnivore was one of the best 80s hardcore/sludge/thrash/speed/punk bands. Angry Neurotic Catholics! RIP ![]() |

I agree with DW, I wasn't wild over Type O Negative, but Carnivore was an amazing band and Steele was nothing short of an icon. RIP dude. ![]() ![]() http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UPDD19l_xWE EDIT: Now I'm going to be listening to Type O all day, even though I risk being one of the thousands of people that are listening to it only because of Peter's passing. It just feels like the correct way to honor him though. |

I have a friend who is a HUGE Type O Negative fan. I'm waiting to hear his response. I've always thought these guys were a good listen now and then. And yeah, Steele's vocals made the band. Very sad. |

Definitely. I don't know if they can continue without him. I feel he fit the description of "Prince Of Darkness" due to his height, looks and voice. He was the perfect vampire. |

Fuck. The guy had such an image and voice even though I never listened to their music I clearly remember him. He was made out of charisma. Shit. This sucks. Rest in Peace. |

I wonder if he had an enlarged heart. His height and proportions of his body seem like he may have had gigantism in some form. In any event, I hope everyone that loved the guy starts feeling better soon. |
