What are some albums you've come across and bought, that came with some unexpected extras. An album that was reasonably priced and came with a bonus dvd, poster, or coupon for free stuff.

I bought Akercocke's "words" album and got the free DVD.

The DVD was pretty crazy.

Actually a lot of CDs come with an extra CD or DVD these days (anyone who actually buys CDs would know that ..)

The unfortunate part is they are mostly worthless add-ins designed to make people think they are getting a good deal. They are either low-budget music videos you will watch once at most, demo versions of songs you will listen to once at most, or low-budget live recordings you will listen to once at most.

The packaging for Tool's 10,000 days album is really fucking cool, and the album still doesn't cost extra.

Honestly, in the days of digital distribution and pirating I think more bands need to be doing this. They should be throwing in some free swag, maybe some codes for some free downloads like wallpapers/ringtones/whatever. It's really an added incentive to me, especially when you get like a free concert DVD or something. That's always a win.

Well, a ringtone came with Vreid's Milorg, which actually isn't free anyway... But I have to admit it would be pretty damned cool to have Speak Goddamnit as my ringtone... I may eventually even add it to my phone.

I agree. A lot of albums now are included with a second live dvd or music video or something like that. Personally, I find those things are more of a bother, especially when they put the extra live footage/interviews etc. on the same cd as the music. It's fine when you play it on a cd player, but once you pop it into a computer the extra footage always starts up first and half the time freezes up the damned computer. Plus the footage, as you mentioned, isn't usually all that earthshattering. They should be charging me less for disturbing my listening experience.

I'd much rather just get free add ins with an order than those live footage/music video/interview add ins that fuck up my computer. I've accumulated a ton of free cds, sampler cds, posters, bottle openers etc. with online orders and they're much more fun to find when you open up an order.

Some albums come with a DVD of the band playing live- Tyr's land had a full concert in the package. Definitely made me feel like it was worth getting the CD itself. Stuff like that is a really good idea, but other "free gifts" I can manage without.

Like, a "poster" folded up into a little square in the inlay, that you can put on your wall... The perfect gift for someone that likes their posters to be all creased!

Buying?! :rolleyes: The sort of things kids come up with these days. They have no respect for the music. In the good old days we used to download albums and cared about them, you buyers show no mercy and respect for the musician and the music industry and whatnot
