Anything more specific? There's a lot of stuff people call hardcore

I like these three a lot. Bad Brains, Akimbo, Houston Swing Engine

I like disfear a lot, what about stuff like that?

I heard a band called Struck By Lightning at the pelican show that put out an album called Serpents this year and it was really good to.

Zen Arcade by Husker Du is essential. Might be a little more melodic in spots than what you're looking for, but fuck it, it's one of the best guitar-based albums ever, full stop.

Seconding the Black Flag recommendation. Pretty much everything up to Loose Nut is essential, and even the last two albums have their moments.

Ignore any chugga-chugga metally hardcore stuff unless you're a roider.

Thomas Lindberg's other hardcore band The Great Deceiver's album Life is Wasted on the Living is good and similar to Disfear. Otherwise you should listen to Akimbo because they are the best.

I've also been listening to Young Widows - Old Wounds a lot and they are neat http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dgdv5JVJhHY

Haha, I was thinking about making this thread just now, actually. 3 of my good friends are obsessed and I've been getting suggestions from them, but I always forget them and never write them down.

I'd check out

Rotting Out
Guns Up!
Trapped Under Ice
Miracle Mile

I like those bands all quite a bit

If you don't listen to Bad Brains then you're opinion simply can't be valid in any musical discussion. I'd emphasize the Dillinger Escape Plan, Converge and Black Flag recommendations.

From the top of my head:

Converge
The Chariot

Selfmindead
Cro-mags
early Agarophobic Nosebleed
Agnostic Front
At the Drive-in
Refused
The Cumshots
Jeroan Drive
Drive Like Jehu
Bad Brains
Husker Du
Rumble In Rhodos
JR Ewing
Black Flag
Silence the Foe

If we're counting post-hardcore then I'm seconding the At The Drive-In. I'll recommend Rites Of Spring and Fugazi while I'm at it.

As for more metally stuff, Botch are one of the few metalcore bands to get it spot on. Punishing stuff.
