I'm looking for some really well done bands with full orchestras. I already have all of Nightwish and bands like Ayreon and Avantasia. I also have Styx's album "One With Everything" and Metallica's "S&M" I'm a huge fan of this stuff and I hope there's more =P |

Dimmu Borgir w/ Death Cult Armageddon Cradle Of Filth w/ Damnation And A Day All more to the extreme metal side though... Uh... I'm pretty positive there are some not as extreme with orchestras... Can't think of any right now. Damn. |

2nd the Hollenthon, probably the best that has ever been done, although I'm pretty sure they use samples. Mostly these combinations are overblown and pointless, and a waste of talented musicians. |

Orchestra is a little sloppy on that one, but still pretty good. Anyway Serenity - Fallen Sanctuary |

Later Therion is an obvious one. Turisas use a lot of programmed orchestral samples on their second album. |

I think Moonspell's latest had a bit of orchestra in it. |

I second the Therion, Hollenthon, and Septic Flesh mentions here, but I would add Epica. They collaborated with the Miskolc Orchestra in doing a double disc live album called The Classical Conspiracy. The first cd consists of covers of classic songs (be it Verdi's Dies Irae or the Pirates of the Carribean Medley). The second cd consists of their own songs put to a live performance with orchestra - truly magnificent. |
