For stuff that sorta matters, but not that much and doesn't deserve its own thread.

E.g. - Absu have just swapped guitarists again.

Endgame has been released today. I'll need to listen to it probably tomorrow.

How many guitarists have they gone through in the past year or so? At least three.

Helloween is apparently planning something big for their 25th anniversary, that's not a new album. This sorta intrigues me, though I'd prefer a new record over whatever it is they have planned.

What if its a reunion of all the past members and their bands going on tour and coming to Omaha, NE?

...yeah that is probably not the case.

Immortal's All Shall Fail should be leaked soon. Probably the best metal news this year, IMO.

I just hope it's not a fucking Greatest Hits album. :lame:

Lead singer of Swedish based progressive metal act Opeth Mikeal Akerfeldt has stated in a recent interview that he has plans to write and record a solo record.

Akerfeldt says ever since he discovered Nick Drake he has taken to the simplistic songwriting approach. He also says that he has been wanting to do a solo acoustic record for a while, and would do all the recording himself.

Although no songs have been written yet, Akerfeldt says that this project will surface eventually.

From Earache:

Quote:
Just a little email to let you know that GRIND MADNESS at the BBC is available for promo

This release is
* 118 tracks spread over 17 different sessions from 8 of the most important
acts in the early history of grindcore.
* Features classic recordings from Napalm Death, Carcass, Bolt Thrower,
Extreme Noise Terror, Godflesh, Heresy, Unseen Terror and Intense Degree
* Comes with extensive liner from ex-Napalm Death drummer and inventor of
the term 'grindcore', Mick Harris
* From the very earliest days of Earache Records, BBC National Radio's John
Peel was a huge supporter of the label and its extreme grindcore bands
* Peel first offered the likes of Heresy and Napalm Death sessions in 1987,
and began to invite more and more of the label's roster into the hallowed
Maida Vale studios to lay down some classic sessions
* In subsequent years bands such as Napalm Death and Carcass credited Peel
with kick-starting their careers
* The recordings include non-album tracks from Napalm Death
* A total of 118 tracks across 3 discs, housed in a smart slipcase sleeve.
* Total running time of over 3 and 1/2 hours
* The definitive Peel Sessions grindcore document

Sounds a pretty fun release for grind fans...

Also in that email, new Gama Bomb on November 5th. And on 9th November, some "long deleted" Scorn rereleases.

They did, back when John Peel was alive. Sadly he's dead now, and they aren't.

Well, they did have a metal show on Radio 1 a while back which the likes of Anaal Nathrakh and Akercocke were on, but it all got a bit too Slipknot for me so I stopped listening. Dunno what it's like now, although Bruce Dickinson does have a radio show on 6Music.

Bruce Dickinson's show seems to be half emo bands from like, Swindon who've sent him in a demo to play, a quarter pretty much anyone who's released an album relatively recently, ranging from Opeth to Paramore, and, somewhat randomly, semi-obscure 80s metal like Trouble and Metal Church. A mixed bag, then, to say the least.

I completely missed this, and Gama Bomb is one of my favorites of the new wave of thrash. I think I like this thread already....

EDIT: Just did some googling about this and found that the album will be available for download for free on the day of its release.

I guess there is some decent metal played on the BBC, but what it is not doing is actually digging out something seriously trailblazing from total obscurity, as Peel did.

Having said that, I haven't listened to Radio 1 in years, so they could be doing this every day for all I know... but I doubt it.

Heh, that's awesome. I wonder why they're doing that.
