which do you think? saw a thread like this on another forum and it was overwhelmingly the 00s, wondering if results here will be different. |

70s or 90s, depending on whether you mean Classic Rock/Metal or Extreme Metal. The 00s are doing pretty well so far, I think we'll see many great releases over the next decade at least before the well of creativity dries up. Edit: voted 70s since that was where it all began. |

Definitely 00s. 90s might be more important but 00s had much better releases. We've seen the most extreme parts of music this decade. |

00s for kathy's reasons, plus I don't know the others that well, but what I do can't compare. |

I'm loving the 80s. |

Hm, why not the 80s? The birth decade of thrash, death metal, and the first forms of black metal, where metal for the first time realised how much it could push boundaries and how dark it could go. Hard question though, I was tempted to vote for the 00s. |

00's. I really like the early 90's too, but i am big fan of good production. |

Are you're saying best decade for metal meaning which decade was the best for metal in terms of making it known to the world? I'd say the 70's, where it started. Or, are you saying which decade contained the most metal that appeals to my taste? I'd say 00. |

I'd say 00. the latter Pfft, well, I like all decades equally then, depends on mood. 70s classics, 80s Thrash, 90s Death and Black, Prog and Alt, and 00s everything! I think that more people vote 00 because it's music that they're growing up with, and most will only know about earlier music indirectly. |

yeah probably. i know i favour the 00s just because i've heard way more music from this decade than from other ones. although the 90s are pretty dire as far as metal goes and i can't imagine choosing them ^^ |

I'm an 80s man myself. Not only because of the obvious thrash stuff, but also because thats when the best NWOBHM stuff came out, when power metal truly began, and when the only death metal bands I like were releasing stuff. Hell, the fact that the seven classic Iron Maiden albums were all released in the 80s is nearly enough for me. 00s have been very strong so far though, and they get the second place. The 70s and 90s have excellent individual releases, but there just isn't enough from the 70s to make it my favourite, and the 90s were pretty weak overall, except in the power metal category. |

I voted 90's, though it was between that and 00's. Purely because the explosion of black metal occurred in that decade, as rio said the first forms started in the 80's but I can't overlook Burzum, Darkthrone, Enslaved, Ved Buens Ende, Arcturus, Emperor just to name a few. Though the 00's did have shitloads of great bm releases by the bands from the 90's and newer bands.... |
