Post subject:  Tired Of Metal?
I'm experiencing a change in how I currently feel about the music I listen to. Has anyone here ever reached a point where you're just bored with metal/rock music? I've increasingly noticed that much of what I usually love to listen to is boring me to death and I've felt that much of the new music that I've heard over the past year is just a re-hashing of music that I've heard before.

I don't think that I'm becoming cynical about metal, it's just that I don't hear anything really new and fresh like I've heard in the past.

Am I nuts or have any of you felt like this? :blink:

I sure did and still regularily do.

Whenever that happens, I look for other musics to satify my needs, it's as simple as that.

While I don't think I've ever felt that drastic about it, there are definitely times where for say a week I've felt pretty tired of metal and have listened to other types of music (though that music generally stays in the rock genre).

Anyway, if you don't feel like listening to metal right now, check out other stuff and see what you do feel like listening to. And maybe after a bit you'll want to return to metal.

And if there's one thing I've learned about metal, its that there's always something fresh, new and awesome somewhere in time. It may have been released twenty years ago or yesterday, but there's always another fantastic album I've never heard out there.

I've felt like that many times. You could start a recommendations thread like I did. It helped me. Not much, but a little, and I discovered some great bands I had not heard. Maybe you should explore more experimental music, and original stuff. Like 22 for instance. Not metal, but Funky prog stuff that certainly adds some spice to your everyday playlist.

Yeah. It happens but I do listen to other genres too so it doesn't get to the point where I would quit. Quitting metal is the stupidest thing anyway. You don't quit a music genre. It's not like quitting smoking for fuck's sake. You just listen to other shit and keep looking for things that will interest you, metal or not.

Never happened. If I go three days without metal I go into some kind of seizure.

I suffer from GAD and OCD there was a point from last year and this year that I won't listen to any music because of the anxiety and OCD attacks it's not because I hate or tired of metal it's just I don't feel like doing things fun like that.

But I'm getting back into the fold.

That usually happens to me once a year or so. I end up listening to classical, country and bluegrass for a couple of weeks. But the whole thing is self-limiting and its a certain mood that rapidly goes away.

It happens fairly frequently for me, but more within genre - I go from loving, say, Brutal Death Metal, to getting tired of it and listening to something else for a few weeks. Generally I mix plenty of non-Metal into my playlists so I rarely ever get properly bored. Go on a Dylan spree or something, Mike.

I know the feeling... few weeks ago I went on a school trip and forgot earphones for my mp3 (and nobody wanted to borrow me ones, dammit!) so after few days I really needed my dose of metal and then...finally!... I've found Hard Rock cafe, ooh! it felt good...

Over the past year I have been listening to less and less metal. By that though, all it means is that I've heard about 50 albums of the genre to last years 60 or 70. I find myself enjoying things I'd never expected to like. Some current high rotation non-metal bands/singers I've been listening to include: Neil Diamond, Neil Young, Nazareth, Mazzy Star, Weeping Willows, Morrissey/The Smiths, Dion & The Belmonts (Hell yeah), The Moody Blues, etc.. Shit like that. After listening to all these bands however metal always comes roaring back sounding better than ever.

One week i'll be really into metal, another i'll be into folk-punk, or just really acoustic stuff

Thanks for all of the insightful responses! I don't feel so odd now over my current music interests. I've been gravitating toward new age theme kind of music. I've listened to some native american new age cd's, gothic horror soundtrack track stuff by Nox Arcana & Midnight Syndicate, and I've been listening to Blackmore's Night and Celtic Legend.

I've recently been disappointed in metal releases that I've been really looking forward to this year. I'm not impressed with the new Iced Earth, Into Eternity, Evergrey, and Sabaton. I guess I'm a bit jaded. I'm sure I'll rebound when I hear something that blows me away.

I had a little 'phase' where I didn't listen to metal for let's say 2 months, with Maiden being the exeption. All I can say is: it was a huge relief to start listening to metal again, and I just try to mix metal with non-metal as much as possible, to avoid beging tired of any genre.

No way... I need metal. I've been a big fan for about 8... Almost 9 years now, and it's still pretty much the only genre I listen to with a few exceptions. I'd go crazy without it.

Dunno what it is about metal, but I always want more and it always keeps me satisfied.
