Post subject:  New Dean Guitar
Hi everybody

I need a little help, from someone that understands something about guitars.

I will buy a new guitar in this summer. I was searching for some cool guitars and I found this two beautys:

I like to play Metal and sometimes Hard Rock. Please tell me the principal differences about both guitars, and in your opinion which is the best choise.

I'm not very familiar with Dean guitars... The cadillac looks a bit odd, and the pickups doesn't have a spesific name or brand, so I'm guessing factory pickups, which is pretty average most of the tim IMO. I like the maple necks best, but mahogany works fine.

The Dave Mustaine signature, would probably be better. Decent pickups, good tuners, and it looks way better.

The guitar that I have is a Epiphone Special II. Is not a very good guitar but is good for a beginner.

Now I want a good guitar to play metal.

I don,t think fender or Gibson are the best ones to play that style.
Jackson and Ibanez, I never tried those. But if you think that brands have good guitars, please tell me some guitars in the price range of 900 euros.

But I thought that the VMNT, was a really good guitar.

Some Washburns you can get reasonably cheap. I have an Idol 65, it has a suitable chunkiness to it.

I must admit I do like the look of the 'Angel of Deth' VMNT though! :wub:

A Gibson Les Paul with EMG pickups is always an option. Have you seen the Gibson xplorer series? Pretty good metal-sound in those.

ESP is also a pretty good metal guitar brand. I've got an Eclipse Deluxe with EMG's 85 and 81, which sounds terrific for metal. There is so much to choose from.. I would've taken som time at the local guitarshop to test som stuff. Both amps and guitars.

I'm not a guitarist, but from the specs info, the VMNT looks like a better choice. It looks good as well. Somehow I find the Cadillac a bit badly designed. The headstock spoils it.

My guitarist just bought a BC Rich Ironbird and he got an EMG (not sure 81 or 85) installed for his bridge. It sounds really heavy and crunchy. But despite that, his stock pick ups were equally good as well, with good heaviness and solid sounding, much to the contrary myth about BC's being pretty lousy guitars.

Do what I did. Buy a Jackson for like £140 second hand. It's a piece of shit. Ooooh, cover it in stickers. Play it through a £30 tiny amp with too much distortion. Sorted.

I don't know if I understood that correctly... But you'll probably get a good and heavy sound. But you should keep in mind that you probably do not have the gear nor the skills (no offence) to play like Megadeth. They probably use custom designed amps, pedals and guitars, so no, you wont be able to play the music ith the sound of Megadeth. Which amp do you use btw?

Well most musicians have their own luthiers make their guitars even if they're endorsed. Signature models are just a rip off most of the time. Even if a musician is using it, his gear is custom made by someone else and not the company. That's what my guitarist told me and he mentioned a number of big names as well.

Of course I don´t know how to play like Mastaine or like Poland, but I can get close to them (or maybe not :P )

My amp is a real sh*t, but I will buy a new one in Christmas. I can´t buy everything at the same time.

I just wanted to know if the guitar is worth the price (830 euros)

If you look at the body, you'll se only one pickup... That'll give you little variation in sound... Thats of course depending on which style youre gonna play... Otherwise, Jackson makes good metal-guitars.. the RR3 is good for begginers.

Hi,

I'm not sure how old you are but don't get caught up in a name (either guitar manufacturer or the artist who plays it) or a paint job on a guitar. I bring up the age thing because many young beginners are attracted to those things instead of the really tangible important aspects of a guitar.

Don't rush into any purchase. Obviously, these instruments can be expensive and you want to buy something that you feel that you'll play for awhile. I would first find a dealer(s) who has the guitars that you're interested in. Go in, sit down, and play them. The overall feel, balance, and tone of a guitar is very important. When you're starting out it's tough to distinguish between the good and bad of those categories. If you haven't become that proficient at picking the good from the bad then take someone with you who has played for sometime who can give you advice. If you don't have that available to you pick the brain of a really good guitar sales person. It's their job to know guitars in and out. If they don't have the answers then go find a different sales person who does.

Remember this as well, many things go into the overall sound that a guitarist gets. Amp, effects, pickups, and guitar. I've found that pickups are probably the most important and I always remove stock pickups and replace them with top of the line pickups that I've found fit my tone and purpose. Again you have to try guitars that have those pickups or if you have a favorite player that uses a particular pickup and you're attempting to mimic his tone it's a good idea to go with those pickups.

Take your time, do your homework, and you'll find the right guitar for you.
