Reign In Blood is possibly the most over-rated album in the discography of any band ever...where are the riffs?

Bathory - Blood Fire Death
Venom - Black Metal
Samael - Ceremony Of Opposites

Reign in Blood is awesome but you have to be in a certain mood for it.

Calling Reign in Blood overrated when you just bought that.

There are some who put this record absurdly higher than it should be, but it is still a landmark thrash record worthy of the highest praise. Methinks you overstate too much.

 Seriously?

The pacing of RiB is off, when I listen to it I don't hear riffs most of the time just notes, Darkness Descends and Spectrum Of Death are played at a million miles an hour too but the riffs are still easily discernible.

The hardcore influence is very strong on RiB and the album's chaotic, breakneck pacing is right in line with that. The technical execution may not be on the same level as a Dark Angel or a Coroner but I hear solid thrash riffs all over this album. Honestly, the unclean guitars and off key tonalities only add to the record's dark, hellish quality...and that's a very good thing.

Now that you mention it, I haven't listened to Morbid Saint in quite a while. Will have to take care of that.

I have purchased a lot of musique lately, but my latest purchase is:

Miles Davis - Workin', Relaxin', Steamin' (3 separate albums)
Miles Davis - Porgy and Bess
Beethoven - Complete Symphonies (conductor George Szell)

Thoroughly enjoyed all. It's good to go back to classical and jazz.
