Limp Bizkit are not really a metal band, unless we also class RATM as one. If Rainbow and ACDC aren't then neither are they :P

Saying metal "should" or "shouldn't" be one thing or another goes against what metal is about in the first place. Metal is about doing whatever you want and not submitting to standards. To say metal should be underground is setting a standard. There should be no standards. Going mainstream is not anti-metal. Selling out to go mainstream is. There is a big difference between selling out to get popular and getting popular for doing what you do. When metal first came about, there was actually quite a bit of mainstream attention. Black Sabbath sold alot of records and played some huge venues. The point was not to avoid the mainstream. The point back then was to stand up against the establishment. Since a large portion of the mainstream in the 60s and 70s was against the establishment, it worked out for Sabbath and similar bands to be popular.

What I'm saying is that setting standards that metal should follow doesn't make sense with what metal is about. Metal is about being free to do what you want despite anyone else's expectations. Popularity is not the issue. It's attitude.

Time to get sexist.

Metal is not popular because girls, generally, (not pointing at any girls on this board), have shitass terrible taste in music. It is pop, rap , reggae, and anything they can go out and dance too. So, therefore, girls, especially ones that are hot, do not like metal. It is too complicated (prog/tech), too angry (death/thrash), too scary (black), too not-dancey (doom/sludge) and too cheesy (heavy Metal).

For the most part the guys that do like metal, (Ones that I know anyway), are not the guys that really go out of their way to put on "The Show." That fake bullshit where you pretend to like what they like in order to nail them. So therefore girls arent pulled into the metal world in any sort of substantial numbers. The only decent looking girls that I know that listen to metal only gleened what little they know off of their boyfriends.

Basically, Pussy = Popular.

Right on!!! And the ones who do listen to metal either do it only for the show-off (posers - ever seen a girl, who is a pure metalhead, wear normal clothes and behave like normal people?) or are way too fat and/or ugly.

But I think that's only one part of the problem, maybe we could say that's the inside view of the problem :p

Wow, that's relevent.

Edit: Actually, I guess it is sort of relevent to the previous post, but still, its a shitty thing to say.

Ok, maybe I was a bit too harsh and partial with my comment. But I'm in the unfortunate position to admit that all the girls I've ever met who actually liked metal, they behaved totally strange. As if metal was the only defining thing in their existence, probably due to their search ot identity or want to belong somewhere. Most of the male metalheads I know wouldn't stand out in a crowd as different, unfortunately that's not the case with the females I've met. But I will admit that what I said was not a real argument and was not based on anything other than my personal experiences and belief so I'm sorry to all the females I've insulted unjustifiably.

Yeah, I know, it's pretty shitty and I'm a bit ashamed to be honest. But well, as you've seen it was not totally irrelevant to the previous post. For a little bit of my excuse, have a look at the comment just above. And plus... maybe in US or some other countries, metal-girls are all babes or nice-looking but good-luck finding metal-babes in Greece.... :P

Ahhh Radagast. Always with the funniez. There is no room for tolerance in Metal. Or anything alternative.

One of my best friends is a girl (and a pretty hot one too) who's favourite song is probably Believe. She only knows heavier sort of rock, but I'm turning her on top power and folk metal.

that wasn't really relevant, but whatever...

RATM are a rap metal band, as is Limp Bizkit. Korn is a nu-metal band. Rainbow and AC/DC are rock bands. :)

I think whether or not bands like AC/DC are considered rock or metal has to do with where someone places that blurry line between metal and hard rock. I always saw AC/DC as bluesy hard rock. Bands like Judas Priest or Maiden has usually maintained certain hard rock elements, but by the time Judas Priest reached the 80s, I'd consider them metal. back in the Rocka Rolla days though, JP was a rock band
