Black Sabbath - Dehumanizer
The forgotten Dio Black Sabbath album. I don't see why eithier. the material is just as good as Heaven and Hell and the Mob Rules, and has better production than both of those albums. It's not instantly memorable like the Mob Rules, but after a few spins you start humming the songs. Time Machine is kind of goofy, but stuff like Letters From Earth, Sins of the Father, I, Master of Insanity are all worthy additions to the Black Sabbath catalogue.

Agreed 100%.

Agreed, but speaking of Sabbath...

Black Sabbath- The Eternal Idol

My favourite Sabbath album, yet nobody ever seems to have listened to it. It doesn't have Ozzy (thankfully) nor Dio, but Tony Martin gives a damn good performance of his own- certainly better than anything Ozzy's pulled off in his life. It really is just some damn good old style power metal.

I've listened to it obviously, and it's my favorite Tony Martin era album. The song Eternal Idol is especially dark and depressing, but awesome. Hard Life to Love has a fucking badass riff too. Hell, all of the Tony Martin albums are underrated except for Forbidden, which deserves it's bargain bin status.

Yeah all Tony Martin era is totally underrated , just like you said with the exception of Forbidden, hell even Cross Purposes is great.

well...i think all of the dragonforce albums are pretty good, but have you ever heard this band live? the two guitarist sucks so bad, i wonder how many times these guys records each song. seriously, they do not manage to play the lead breakes without missing half the notes...and at one clip i saw one of the guitars stayed out of tune for the whole show... overrated!

You hear a lot of stuff like that /\... even if they do speed it up in the studio, it works on disc at least.

My experience was simmilar to this. I suppose the band gets a little too drunk before some shows.

Overated

Symphony X - V The new mythology suite
they are great musicians but this is simply boring and bland.

Evergrey - The Inner circles
Nothing to write home about.

Nevermore - Dreaming Neon Black
one of their worst if you ask..

Sonata Arctica - Winterheart's guild

Tool - 10,000 days and lateralus.
they are not bad albums, but they don't live up to all the hype.
Undertow and Aenima light years better.

Underated

Angra - Temple of Shadows
This album deserves a lot more credit than it got it's simply awesome.

Amaran - Prestine In Bondage
too bad this was their last release... I guess they wern't getting enough attention and thats a shame.

Tristania - World of Glass
No veland but who really cares it's still a very enjoyable album.

I think the style/production on that album is a cool concept since Nevermore are a band you'd assume to have clean production... but in practice it doesn't really work that well.

I thought so too until I listened to it once at totally got chills. Songs like Cenotaph and All Play Dead may sound boring at first, but after a while, they click, and they're damn creepy.

Hell, I'd put Dreaming Neon Black at underrated. IMO it's one of metal's finest hours.

underrated:

Antiquus - Eleutheria

This is an amazing slab of prog/power/heavy metal. The production is a little low budget (but still far more interesting than most bands' protools sound, you can actually hear the bass etc), but the album is full of amazing riffs and melodies, the guitarists have some awesome, non-wanky solos and its got possibly the coolest concept ever (involving space travel, treason, murder, etc). And there's no annoying synths or choir vocals or whatnot :D

i think it got a review here a while back

imo it's really good although not for everyone since it does have its flaws and the vocals take some getting used too. but I  it

I wouldn't say any of Tool's albums are overrated, really. Even Undertow has some great songs on it. Hell, Opiate does.

It annoys me when people say that "X metal band wouldn't exist if it weren't for Black Sabbath starting the genre". I mean listen to something like Mountain - Climbing!, which came out just a month after Black Sabbath's S/T. Black Sabbath just got there first, without them metal would still have happened anyways.

It wouldn't be the same without Black Sabbath. They've done everything and people took it from there and continued.

I agree. Its not like if Black Sabbath hadn't existed, metal never would have been created, or that if Priest hadn't released Stained Class NWOBHM never would have begun.

Overrated:

Tool--Aenima
I agree with Noodles on this one. I just don't like it that much...yeah, there are some good songs but I think it's one of their worst CD's.

Dark Tranquillity--The Gallery
My opinion of this CD may change since I just got it like three weeks ago, but is it just me or is this CD incredibly sloooooooww? Even when they're playing fast, the melodies still seem to be slow. There's also just something about the atmosphere that makes me feel "eh". I don't know, maybe I have to give it more listens, but so far the only song I like is "...Of Melancholy Burning".

Underrated:

I dunno, I can't think of any...still relatively new to metal so I'm not really buying obscure stuff or CD's that haven't received generally positive opinions.
