i cant stand pop music nowadays, that is just awful.... but in the older days it was some good songs...

I disagre completely about it being the complete opposite of metal. Pop music and power metal are incredible similar in many ways. The catchy songs, emphasis on melody, simple structures, layered vocal melodys. They're surprisingly similar in a lot of ways. Clearly this is a generalisation but surely you can see the point i'm making?

Dare i be so bold as to say that it is cool for metal heads not to like pop music. Just in the same way that its cool for teenage girls to like Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears as some of you guys touched on earlier in this thread?

Well I think most people here are past thinking they're cool hating pop music but surely that is a phase a lot of people go through at some point in their lives.


And about power metal having similarities to pop, it's funny cause it's true.

When I first got into BM I went through a period of listening to nothing but, thinking that Arch Enemy et al were. Crap. Cue now, I find myself liking everything from Arcade Fire to the Chemical Brothers. I think it's just a part of (dare I say it?) maturing musically.

I'd say metal is the opposite of easy listening jazz because easy listening jazz is talented musicians making relaxing music while metal is untalented musicians raping your ears with guitars.

Yeah, it was him, and it's a really ridiculous statement. Insert "beliefs" instead of "truths" (which perhaps shouldn't even be plural anyway), and it makes more sense.

...On the pop music thing. I think a lot of people confuse, or simply interchange, pop music with contrived music. Pop music can be a lot of things. In itself, you would think it simply means that it's popular, but like so many other things that definition has taken on new meanings and people aren't always on the same page when talking about it. Not only that, but much of the pop music of today is contrived. I actually wonder how much "pop" music never actually becomes popular.

There are a couple forms/genres of music that I truly dislike by default, but "pop" is not one of them.

I think tastes in music depends on the person's own personal taste. WE can't dictate what is good, neither can say what is bad. But there some genre's which are really bad. Go figure, niggas!!

Haha, I guess that post of mine is a historical one for me. I remember typing something bout musical tastes and I forgot the rest. I was kinda high on Baccardi coke at my friends place at that time. LOL! So it's officially my first drunken post.
