I don't see where he made anything up. I never gave Coal Chamber a long enough listen to even form an opinion anyway, but it seems to me he's giving his view on the band based on what he hears when he listens to them and on information from an interview he read. Besides, an opinion does not need to come from fact. If you listen to something and think it's the worst "metal" ever, that's all you need. That's why it's an opinion. Being ignorant would be to judge them without listening to them. Based on his description, he obviously gave tham a listen, so how can he be ignorant by giving his opinion on it?

Because you're not allowed to say you don't like something in Eyesore's presence.

Incorrect. It's like the people that claim Linkin Park was put together by a label. It is flat out incorrect. You can dislike the band all you want, but using non-facts as justification is lame.

What if we said they sound like a boy band that was put together by a label to make sleek, catchy, substanceless pop-metal?

You'd sound even more idiotic.

Well calling Limp Bizkit the guy who brought "the dark age of metal" is pretty inaccurate. I think the real 'dark age' was during the hair era. It made metal look really cheesy and butt-fucking gay. And MTV exploited that and made every non-metalhead the perception that hair was HEAVY FUCKIN METAL. As said earlier by someone, only the underground lads were the ones who knew that was very untrue.

As for Limp Bizkit, well I don't really like them. But definitely not the downfall of metal. In fact I have friends who thought that Bizkit was teh real metal, and then they started exploring metal. And now, they're genuine metalheads, old skool to the core. Yeah it's kinda embarassing for them to admit that LB was the band they first listened to.

But then of course, you can't blame some people for hating them because here in Malaysia, the number of posers grew tremendously since Bizkit. Red caps and baggy pants became a hit and they kept chanting "Yeah! This is Heavy Metal!!!". Linkin Park were also a same influence here. Everyone thought they were teh metal band.

Oh and yeah by the way, thumbs down to Slipknot, mushroomhead, manson n coal chamber. Yuck

The "dark age" of metal came about when the mentality of people like mentalmark became trendy. Can someone explain to me why the 95% of mentalmark's 61 posts have been totally negative in context?

The answer is simple: he is the modern day music fan. Somewhere along the way people forgot how to support bands! The bands you like you steal from, then you don't even have the respect enough to positively discuss that which you like! You waste all your words talking shit about the bands you don't like! You want to know where the "dark age of metal" came from: look in the mirror.

Because they're all in this thread.

Someone disliking any of these bands is obviously nothing new, and makes for BORING reading. Oh well, off to watch grass grow!

Isn't it? I will never understand the desire to constantly trash bands! It's lame.

I find people flaming bands funny, but with Link Park/Limp Bizkit it's just been done sooo many times its old... unless you dress up in a long jacket and a funny helmet and yell to people at a Linkin Park show that they have bad taste in music.

No, it's not funny. It's tiring. I don't get together with my friends and discuss things I hate the whole time! That sucks. Many of you talk so much trash it doesn't make sense. I'm almost convinced you're all a bunch of nu-metal emo wiggers trying to cover your tracks.

one thing I find kind of interesting about this thread is how mentalmark seems totally oblivious to the replies it is getting.

Ken come on, you can't honestly support teeny bopper boy band metal like Linkin Park, jesus dude, for real you can respect them........can you.........do you........really? I mean damn, I can take HIM, even AFI to some degree but Linkin Park????????

They are horridly bland dude and wether or not they were put together by a label (for sure their singer was brought in that way, I know I have read that) they are basically just like one, you know they are, just give in for once.

Dude, I don't expect more from these bands. I take it at face value because that's all I'm going to get. The people that complain about these bands want too much.

I like Linkin Park. They're surely not a favorite, not even close, but I enjoy that shit from time to time. It's just good, fun, rockin' music. Nothing more. I don't expect anything more.

I personally dislike when people only go online to bash bands. While I enjoy getting into debates about bands, I think it's just as important to debate and defend the bands you actually like as well. If I have a particular view I think will bring about discussion in a negative thread, I'll do it, but I can't stand when people won't do so the other way around. If I only know what someone hates but little about what that person likes, it shows that annoying trend to use the internet mainly as a bitching tool.

But I still think Fred Durst is a lame excuse for a vocalist in every way shape and form. I don't dislike them solely for their place in the media. I just think they suck and can't even remotely find anything fun about that band.

It's quite funny to read some of these posts after the weekend as I generally spend little or no time online over Sat/Sun. I admit that Linkin Limp Roach are easy targets, but it was kinda the idea to start at the top and work my way down all these bands that really get my goat.

I see there's a one Metal/one Love vibe feel against my suggestions of bands I've pinpointed as 'cancerous to metal', which I appreciate. Mushroomhead aside, my girlfriend or I, have owned one album from each the bands I've mentioned and I can't believe (IN MY OPINION) that they're allowed to get away with lacklustre, marketed, commercial arse.

For example, Rapping to Metal? Faith No More, Anthrax and RATM did it well, but it was regurgitated for a wider market some six or seven years ago with a more 'Gangsta' feel to it. Is that what you want from your Metal? The same ideas spun over time and time again, taking the freshness from your music so some Record label Dick can sit on his yacht, feeling smug with his latest marketing idea. Fucked if I do, so I'm on a raft on my own here, floating down shit creek I guess. Damn heretic that I am!

I love Metal and obviously I do rant about what I hate about it too. Doesn't mean you have to agree. Doesn't mean you have to like it or me. It doesn't mean that I'm right or wrong. However, I will say that if any of these bands I mentioned were your starting point in Metal and you have an affection for them, then I apologise to you. It's not the people who buy this shit I'm having a go at, it's the bands.

Therefore, I stand by my rantings as these bands have had their 'use in attracting new fans'. Now if they could do Metal a big favour and fall off the planet...

To improve upon my 95% quota of negativity, a bit of positivity. I LOVE METAL, It's wonderful and the greatest genre of music ever concieved. It is the most durable of music and it will remain here long after we're gone, so viva la Metal!!! Also check out my other forum for the Unholy Alliance Chapter II where I've been nothing but supportive for two of my favourite bands Slayer and Children of Bodom!!! :D

Besides I wouldn't say that Hair Metal was the dark times of Metal, because I'd rather bone someone to a Whitesnake or Poison track than imagine wank hand Durst's music. It's about love man, not fake angst and the 80's was when it was all experimental and new dudes!!! (Although cancers from that time were Warrant, Danger Danger... doh, I did it again!).

K HERE'S MY CONTRIBUTION TO THE THREAD FOR AN ALBUM I ACTUALLY BOUGHT

The Absence - these Americans are total crapmaggots. I put American in bold because that's the only reason people will ever care about the music they make. Why? Because the style of melodeath they play was old in Europe 10 years ago, and they play it with even less experimentation than At The Gates, In Flames, or Dark Tranquillity. The only reason I can think of that Metal Blade got even remotely interested in these plagiarist cockturds is because all the other American bands who like to rip off Swedish music add HxC breakdowns in (forgetting Arsis exist because if Metal Blade thought of signing a good band the universe would collapse on itself), but the Absence don't... so that makes them like gods, right?
