I was going to ask for suggestions in a few other genres but looking through the suggestions from the other forum there really isn't a point for anything outside doom

so since doom/death makes up most of what I have anyone have some good suggestions for traditional doom or funeral doom

already have Candlemass, Solitude Aeturnum, Cirith Ungol, Cathedral, Type O Negative, Memento Mori (trad. doom) Skepticism, Ahab, Mournful Congregation, Catacombs and disMEMBERMENT (funeral doom)

My favorite doom bands hence the suggestion (with suggested album to start with):

Reverend Bizarre - III: So Long Suckers
Salome - self-titled
Electric Wizard - Dopethrone
Batillus - Furnace
Spiritus Mortis - The God Behind the God
Dragged into Sunlight - Widowmaker
Thou - Summit
Horseback - Invisible Mountain

I avoided mentions of sludge or stoner bands, but if you think you might enjoy that then I could totally list some of those too.

Alls yeah. Did you check out Half Blood? I haven't fell in love with it like I did Mtn but I have hopes that it'll click. I'll probably write a review here soon for it.

Yes I did. I quite liked it. Have it on LP and it sounded great! A review would be great.

thanks mate, learned on the other forum sludge just isn't for me but don't have a lot of stoner suggestions so yeah I could do with a couple just to hit up on youtube and see if I like 'em, have Cathedral and Down in my collection and dig them so that's a start I guess

I know we're talking about Doom now, but I just realised there was a seriously glaring omission from your Death Metal list.

CRYPTOPSY!!!!

If you like your DM at all Brutal or Technical, you *need* to get None So Vile by Cryptopsy. If you like that one, explore from there.

Stoner metal, ahoy!

Sleep - Dragonaut: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zj9IAvv32wE
Electric Wizard - Dopethrone: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XWHplp10 ... ure=fvwrel (debated between this and Funeralopolis, but this was on the sidebar)
Om - State of Non-Return: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kKqoNrZ00Bg
Red Fang - Wires: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WQPfQvLIseA
Kalas - Monuments to Ruins: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4mnnTzjxaWs

Bongzilla, Weedeater, Goatsnake, Black Tusk and Orange Goblin probably deserve mention but I don't listen to 'em. I thought I listened to more stoner metal than I do. Apparently, I just listened to the Sleep guys and whatever they end up playing in.

one and only complaint about Cryptopsy is those vocals, totally indecipherable growls (from what I have heard of them anyway) and I said at the bottom of listing the suggestions I have recieved I still like to be able to tell words are actually being growled, it's such a small hang up but I don't seem able to get over it

Cryptopsy's the Unspoken king is one of the most innovative death metal albums of all time, it doesn't have Lord Sperm's annoying cookie monster vocals and is very atmospheric and loaded with lots of red hot passionate riffs. It ranks among some of the best death metal albums of all time, check it out.

my complaint for everything online, text does not convey tone, the internet needs a special font for sarcasm

pretty obvious Steve is a fucking moron and that Cryptopsy is not a band I will be looking further into anytime soon, it's the vocals they just ruin it for me (bet he has something to say after the songs I posted in my rtsay thread, hey I'm a lazy fucker like I'm gonna type out the full name)

Might just be personal taste, but I love Lord Worm's rabid growls, fits the deranged music perfectly. But then I'm a Bob Dylan fan so my taste in vocals is probably suspect anyway...

For what it's worth, Cryptopsy is a genuinely amazing band. That album just happens to be a huge piece of shit.

actually I do like quite a lot of power metal, Sabaton is not one of the bands I like however, actually could make a short list for future referance in case someone, at some point, wants power metal

Attacker - Second Coming
Borealis - Fall From Grace (follow-up to an album that has actually been reviewed on here)
Blind Guardian - Follow The Blind, Imaginations From The Other Side, Nightfall In Middle Earth and Somwewhere Far Beyond
Crimson Glory - Transcendance
Demons & Wizards - Demonss & Wizards (it's basically a straight up merge of Iced Earth and Blind Guardian)
DivineFire - Into A New Dimension, drawback is they are a christian band, plus is some good musicianship and heavier power metal then much of what's currently out there
Excalion - Waterlines
Fates Warning - Awaken The Guardian
Future's End - Memoirs Of A Broken Man (progressive power metal much like Crimson Glory but much heavier)
Gamma Ray - Power Plant and Heading for Tomorrow
Halford - Resurrection, up to and including the track Sad Wings this album is just essential for power metal or traditional metal fans and that's all there is to it
HammerFall - Crimson Thunder, Glory To The Brave and Renegade
Harmony - Dreaming Awake and Chapter II: Aftermath, Aftermath is the stronger album however the one drawback with this prog/power metal band is their overtly Christian lyrics
Helloween - Keeper Of The Seven Keys parts 1 and 2, Walls Of Jericho, Better Than Raw and Dark Ride
Iced Earth - Night Of The Stormrider, Burnt Offerings, Dystopia and possible Dark Saga, Something Wicked This Way Comes, Days Of Purgatory and Horror Show, plus Alive In Athens if you're into live albums, I'm not
Iron Saviour - Megatropolis
King Diamond - Conspiracy
Manticora - Hyperior
Mercyful Fate - pretty much their whole discography has something worthwhile but Melissa and Don't Break The Oath are probably their best efforts
Omen - Battle Cry
Persuader - Evolution Purgatory
Queensryche - Queensryche
Rob Rock - Garden Of Chaos once again christian but the title track alone is worth it and the rest of the album is pretty solid as well
Sanctuary - Refuge Denied an absolute MUST HAVE for power metal fans, Battle Angels, Termination Force, Die For My Sins, Soldiers Of Steel, Sanctuary and so on
Savatage - Hall Of The Mountain King
Serenity - Fallen Sanctuary and Death & Legacy albums, symphonic power metal but with more balls then anything else in the style so far as I've heard, really worth checking out
Steel Attack - Diabolic Symphony it's dark, it's powerful and it's heavy

that's pretty much it I think, at least that's all I have thus far
