Black Funeral - Opferblut

6

The main riff wastes no time into devolving into a faster riff, and like with all of the albums I've heard by these guys there is always a bad reverb in the background. Vocals remind me of that "I'm yelling in a tin shed" approach from early Nachtmystium and Xasthur, faster riff is a little more conventional like a Mayhem riff stretched and some of the mid-paced elements taken out. Overall I think it ends a little too soon for me to truly enjoy, but I've come a little way we this guys since I first heard Empire of blood- so not bad.

Absurd- Eternal Winter

6.5 range...

Has the RAC feel that so many NSBM bands are influenced by.

My favorite NS black metal is the Blazenbirth Hall material these days, though.

No offense intended, but it's quite funny you and Tehom listen to this extreme metal, mostly black, that is just noise to my ears and you don't like the melodic, melancholic stuff. I guess we are at total opposites on the metal spectrum.

I liked some of Viva Emptiness, but then the homos in Katatonia literally kept doing the same damn thing every album. Their newest album may as well be a HIM album, what a bunch of queers in that band.

No offense taken... I listen to a lot of "melodic:" stuff, but I don't really care for "poppish" material... I love Arcturus for example. But there is melody in a lot of black metal, it could be that your ears just aren't accustomed to the rawness and minimalist production.

Black metal is more about..., well, we've gone over this ad infinitum, so I'll just leave it at that.

Check this out and tell me there is no melody:

It has much more melody than previous songs you posted
but the vocals just kill the dam thing. Vocals feel tacked on background music. That is how bad the mix and production is. 3/10

Novembre - Bluecracy. What is this? How shall we rule our govt? The blue shall rule. Do something, music, goddamn you. It's like a bad Tool impression. Oh, my god growling. I hear it. Grrrr. Oh my god it's not a chorus but it has me bouncing like a chorus. SOLO!! Too widdly. Okay, I'm done. 2/10

Cianide-The Undead March

7

The main riff reminds me a lot of SOD's March of the SOD (or maybe Obituary's - Killing Time) which is cool. I'll take the slow doomy style of death metal over the hyper blasting technical stufft any day.

Odal - Der Worte Gewalt. Oooooh I like Odal. Scandinavian riff: check! Raspy vocals in the distance: checks! These guys don't do anything amazing, but they do it well. 7/10.

Moonspell - Spring of Rage: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iQYYqt386og

I'm refraining from posting Die Antwoord, because the sidebar is linking me to that...

Odal - Der Worte Gewalt

7/10

Literally just heard these guys a few months ago, another archetypal band that takes that Pagan/natural-esque approach to bm in the vein of stuff like Ancestor's blood, Heimdalls Wacht, and Menhir. Basically just Graveland-esque droning tremolo chords accentuated by steady drum work, I love this sound more and more the more I hear it and I need to pick this album up.

Moonspell-Spring of Rage

The first half of Night Eternal had better songs overall than the second half, and Spring of rage always suffered from the by the numbers Moonspell filler that would later plague their piece of shit double album. Fernando's vocals are what you'd expect a throaty roar along with that annoying bouncing riff that plagues my mind everytime I hear this song, the chorus is nowhere near what it could be. Drums are also too cleanly produced if you asked, me weak song from an album that signaled the demise of the band

Phrase totally captures that Odal sound. And do tell: which double album Moonspell tracks sound at all as awesome as Spring of Rage? Because I apparently missed those.

Timeghoul - Boiling in the Hourglass. Oddly atmospheric death metal. I feel like I'm being judged. In outer space. Like a musical space opera. With the cast of Planet of the Apes. The gorillas are not happy with democracy. Space-y solo, bro. This ghoul must travel through time. And in that case, that solo is kinda like when the guys on Wayne's World go doodaloo doodaloo doodaloo. Chant chant chant growl growl growl. Widdle widdle. This song is long. This won't ever end. Oh my god this blows. 1/10
