In the article he says something about how he had more fun with A7X these past few months than he had for years with Dream Theater, or something of the like. This is truly sad / frustrating. He was basically Dream Theater's foundation.

Mike Portnoy quits Dream Theater.

Wow. That blows. Glad I was able to see them live in June before this happened. Kinda ruins my day.

To be honest, I can't imagine this being permanent. I fully expect to see big 'REUNION' headlines in the future.

Definitely. His intent was that Dream Theater as a whole would take a break, not just himself. It's not like they can refuse if he wanted back in. "No way man, you can't rejoin a band you've been the backbone of for 25 years." That just doesn't make any sense.

He's asked people not to blame A7X. Let's hope they get a drummer who can sing this time.

The Devil?! Fuck's sake. Some company suit must have got to them, I'm sure.

Anyway, if their future albums are half as good as the last one was, i'm still on board.

It totally does. What's bloody fucking ironic is that not too long ago he got caught in a pileup and survived with virtually no damage at all. We have lost one of the best voices in rock n'roll.
