Husker, any thoughts on the new Primordial?


I continue to enjoy this more and more.

Haven't listened to it yet. Will check out later.

Okay, buddy. No rush.

A recording with many musical ideas and an abundance of tribal despair and melancholia.

Dynamic and impassioned, never too aggressive, never too light.

Certainly very distinct. One must remember that this era of Voivod came from the musical climate of grunge/alternative/industrial/nu., Voivod has not completely gone that way, as it is still a Voivod release, but it has definitely rubbed off them quite a bit. Many major chords, abrasive atmosphere, off tempo drumming, shouting vocals, awkward soloing, dystopian lyrical content and bizarre structures. If it weren't for Voivod I would have never listened to it again as I will be listening to this more often, but definitely not regularly.

Nile were a driving and innovative force in death metal during their prime, which makes me wonder what happened to them in the current scene. Incantation/Immolation consistently tour and have loads of fans of that occult death metal style (spawning loads of clone bands), Dying Fetus can still sell out mid sized venues, Suffocation (sans Mullen) is still kicking as well- but poor Nile just hasnt seem to have kept up with these bands.
