Blimey, is it that hard for people? eBay and Amazon keep me more than fulfilled in the CD dept. Downloading's for cheapskates and lazy record companies who can't be bothered sending you CDs.

I have bought over 700 CDs this year so far. I'm not doing that sort of thing blindly.

Buying is for people who like wasting money on things they could get for free

True noodles it is in the finest human tradition to take what you can at the expense of whoever you can. Whenever it's ordinary people being ripped off by businesses everyone applauds the latter for being good entrepreneurs.

I tend to trust band names, but I always check out new bands through MySpace and Pandora before buying. Downloading is simply not necessary.

I will certainly 2nd that! I find tons of bands that way and I also sample a band's music via their MySpace page and through samples on Itunes/Amazon. I don't find a NEED to download a damn thing.

that would work except theres been so many times where i've thought a band's myspace songs sounded cool then downloaded the album and found that they actually suck

Yes, well, most of us tend to pay attention to what we're listening to, and listen a couple of times.

Plus, the old adage: you like bought albums better than downloaded ones. Make an investment in something, you find the value.

I won't deny that a lot of money gets spent in buying CDs, but I just cannot get into downloading. I've downloaded a couple albums, and I never ever really liked doing it. I get a lot more satisfaction from having the actual album and building up a collection.

It's more than I can't judge whether I like a band for a full album unless I can listen to them for a full album

See it's just the opposite for me. whenever I buy an album I stop listening to it on my ipod since I think "hey i can just listen to this on my CD player", except 75% of the time I'm listening to music on my cd player it's when I'm in bed half asleep or reading. :\

I only listen to music off my laptop or mp3 player so the cds I've purchased sit in my closet once they've been ripped. Oh and in my car but I burn data discs of 10-12 cds for storage issues in that case.

Buying cds has just never worked for me. I'd rather spend money on books. I spend about $30 a week on books. Sadly e-books don't work as well as downloaded music works for me.

As for contributing to the artists, I'm just making it a conscientious effort to see all the ones I like live.

I download, sample for a day or two, and buy if I like it. There are those bands—and there are plenty!—I will buy no matter what, so a download isn't necessary, but MySpace and 30-second samples just aren't enough to tell me if I'll like the whole album enough to buy it.

I only download what I can't find in stores.
