Most of the 2007 releases I've heard I've been rather lukewarm too, or in a couple cases, thoroughly unimpressed with. The highlights for me so far (in no particular order):

Nest - Trail Of the Unwary
Forgotten Tomb - Negative Megalomania (still not that crazy about this one, but it did grow on me)
John Zorn - Six Litanies for Heliogabalus
Pig Destroyer - Phantom Limb (grind isn't really my thing, but this is good)

I was also kind of surprised with the new Rush and Tristania albums, maybe not highlights, but pleasant surprises at least. ... Still lots of stuff I'm waiting to hear or to get released (Nokturnal Mortum, Limbonic Art...)

No. Something called Legacy of Evil press release can be found on the net but I'm doubtful it's the real thing. I'll just wait until it is out. Supposed to be in September.

Shoegaze innit? I knew you'd like it. It's good but I liked the EP beter.

As usual I've heard far too little to make a fair judgement, but I'll give it a shot then. I mean there's always great stuff you'll miss, but I've heard a total of like 20 new albums this year.

1. Machine Head - The Blackening (far and away, nothing comes close. Best album ever.)
2. Symphony X - Paradise Lost (dig it far more than their earlier stuff due to an absolutely killer guitar tone and riffwork that reminds me of vintage Annihilator)
3. Threshold - Dead Reckoning (still going strong, few surprises but extremely solid still)
4. 3 Inches of Blood - Fire Up the Blades (not the gimmicky parody stuff I expected)
5. Candlemass - King of the Grey Islands (almost as good as the classics, and I think I actually prefer the new vocalist)
6. Morgana Lefay - Aberrations of the Mind (solid thrashy power metal, makes me want to check into their earlier stuff)
7. Kamelot - Ghost Opera (a considerable step down from The Black Halo, my 2005 album of the year, but very good still)
8. Dark Moor - Tarot (not quite Olden Dreams/Oblivion level, but much better than the last two)
9. Saxon - The Inner Sanctum (best since Unleash the Beast)
10. Within Temptation - The Heart of Everything (not a fan of the style really, but good. Including it in my top ten shows how little '07 stuff I've actually heard, though)

EDIT: oh yeah I'd absolutely LOVE to include The Dogma here, seeing as their debut was my #2 favorite album of '06, but their new album immensely disappoints me I'm afraid.

Receiving End of Sirens's and Middian's albums also kick ass. I wish I'd listen to the Middian sooner because I had it for like 3 months before finally giving it a good listen
