Well, from my experiences JI are usually looked down on in the BM community. So I was kind of suprised that so many of you would put them down as your top 25 metal bands.

I really don't consider that whining, but ok.

Hey guys lets namedrop bands and not discuss them. 8)

from my experiences most of the "bigger" names within the black metal community are looked down upon by other black metallers/ black metal bands. A simple example: NS vs Satanism, they're both have each their interpretation on what black metal is, what black metal should be and how it should be used etc.

Black metal is satanic, period. However, satanism and NS are in no way mutually exclusive.

Pagan religions all have their own "dark sides", so to speak, so paganism definitely has a place in black metal.

This verse from Necromantia's Ancient Pride comes to mind:

You Came And Slaughtered Odin
You Came And Murdered Zeus
Our Gods Became Your Satan
And Satan Became Our God

But a band that promotes paganism isn't necessarily BM. The foundation of black metal is satanism (which can be manifest in many forms, sometimes unobvious).

Satanism is whatever that comes from the heart and yes BM is based on satanism and the Fundamental. And Necromantia is the shit!

Toatally impossible, my tastes change every day, the only band that has stayed the same is Iced Earth.

You're telling you cannot come up with even a name list of 10 bands? You must have some favourites!

i don't think dark sides have anything to do with satanism. It it true that most black metal in the beginning was all about satanism, it's not like that nowadays. Depression, melancholy, nature f.ex has nothing to do with satanism, unless you think depression is the work of satan

anywho.. i was referring to the struggle bewteen of ideologies, wheither it's about lyrics, how black metal should be played or if it is to stay underground etc... those who worship satan in their lyrics think those who worship satan as a symbol are gay and weak ( LaVey) etc. - that's why i wasn't surprised that some look down on JI.

Just take the good old Velvet Cacoon who looked down on most black metal bands, including satanism and NS.

but if you think only black metal with satanic content is black metal, that's your opinion.

I do not think that BM with Satanic contents is just BM. And I agree with on the dark sides of human beings, as they are emotions that are buried deep down in one's being. And themes such as Depression, Melanchonia and Nature are emotions and themes that transform into the beauty of BM music.
