Youtube does work, will watch.

That Legend I found does sound pretty damn interesting though...

It's very interesting. I discover them some time ago via bnr too, and it's very good.

My immediate thoughts would be:

UFO
Montrose
Spooky Tooth
Frank Marino & Mahogany Rush
Robin Trower
Early Journey

Cargo, Wishbone Ash, Night Sun (I think you already know them?), Flower Travellin' Band (maybe a little on the weird side), Free ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2lAXfjWIOBM Heartbreaker has such an amazing riff), Far Out

Colour Haze and Hypnos 69 aren't from the 70s but they sound like they are and they are extremely awesome.

So...

A lot of the bands mentioned I already know about. Like Jethro Tull, Genesis, Yes, CCR, Montrose, Robin Trower, Journey, Kansas, etc...

I was looking for some more obscure shit, like what I have found so far:

Captain Beyond
Atomic Rooster
Sir Lord Baltimore
Icecross
Armageddon
Budgie
Jericho
Blackwater Park

I will look into some of the other bands mentioned that I don't really know... And noodles, yes I do already know Night Sun thanks to you.

So yeah, thanks everybody who has suggested bands.

can anybody think of more?

Hawkwind, since they haven't been mentioned. Prog-Archives is indeed a great site, don't visit it often enough. You'd dig High Tide, I think:

http://www.metalreviews.com/reviews/detail.php3?id=4806

And maybe you should check out the Proto-Punk crowd. MC5, The Stooges especially. Otherwise, lessee... I assume you're into Zappa, King Crimson, and so on? Soft Machine are a great Prog band. Old ZZ Top, obviously. Camel. Into Tom Waits? Uriah Heep, fo'shore. Just what I've found looking through my music...

hehe, yeah shit, DW. Atomic Rooster...I should've mentioned them up front.

Great band huh? Definitely proto-metal if you ask me, specially the album "death walks behind me"

:dio:

Also, Zad, it's probably good if you don't visit progarchives too often, my friend. It will suck your life out. I have literally spent nights on there for 12 hours just....discovering music.

Actually, i think as a direct result of that site, my prog CD collection is even more robust than my thrash CD collection.

I'm registered on there as Eapo_q42, i've written a small handful of reviews for them.

Before I go to bed, I will say this...

Flower Travellin' Band is very very weird. But in a good kinda way. All 5 Satoris are very cool.

German Oak - German Oak
Electric Sandwich - Same
Eloy - Floating
Walter Wegmüller - Tarot
Tangerine Dream - Phaedra
Amon Düül II - Yeti

I appreciate this thread. It has prompted me to check out (so far):

Night Sun
High Tide (I am fully aware of their review on this site. That put them in my radar, this thread prompted me to listen) - Death Warmed Up is awesome, by the way
Wishbone Ash
Atomic Rooster

I've also been on a bit of a Witchcraft kick as of late, and they could probably fit into the parameters of not being from the 70s but sounding like it anyway.

I need to listen to the Flower Travelin' Band some more, though. Am I alone in getting a bit of a Satori pt. 3 vibe from Porcelain Heart?

:D

But yes, great thread. Must try that German Prog of Dago's, knew of Can, Amon Duuuuul, Tangerine Dream and Faust (their split with Dalek is excellent) but the others are new to me.

Another recommendation, not a 70s band but one with a very 70s sound: Farflung.

http://www.metalreviews.com/reviews/detail.php3?id=4890

There's a ink to a YouTube vid there and all.
