Isn't Derek Trucks the guy who played with the Allman Brothers for a stint? Awesome slide player.

Yeah, I think so. I just got into him this year. He's a wicked good guitarist. Definitely worth checking out if you can dig on that style of music.

The man can play slide like Duane.

The Paper Chase - Some Day All This Could Be Yours Pt 1 is my favourite so far this year, and I think part 2 will only cement its position.

Otherwise, The Mars Volta, Slough Feg, and Buried Inside all released really great albums.

That's about it. Haven't listened to too many 2009 albums so far. I might end up in love with new Spiritus Mortis and Maudlin of the Well once I listen to them more.

Oh that Antigama album is awesome. I don't know where it's go in my list. I'd probably switch Spirtus Mortis out for it. It's been a good year for grind.

New Stratovarius is real good, as is the new Alestorm. Really like Crogacht by Suidakra as well, nice heavy folk-ish metal.

Saxon's newest is a real winner as well, a few songs aren't so great but when it's good it's bafflingly brilliant. Bought the new Mastodon when it came out and still haven't listened to it more than once yet. I'll get round to it though.

Dark Forest's debut is some brilliant 80s metal, anyone who likes Wolf and Cauldron and that sort of band will really enjoy it.

Saga - The Human Condition
Devin Townsend - Ki
Heaven & Hell - The Devil You Know
Place Vendome - Streets of Fire
Dark Moor - Autumnal
Kreator - Hordes of Chaos
Hammerfall - No Sacrifice, No Victory (Really surprised by this)
Eluveitie - Evocation I - The Arcane Dominion
Dream Theater - Black Clouds & Silver Linings
Steven Wilson - Insurgentes

No real order to that other than maybe the first 3.

Not for me. Came out in the US in 2009.

It seems Candlemass and Kreator are going to be in many people lists this year. Strong releases from DGM, Lion's Share, Dark Moor and Alestorm. The latter really took me by surprise and I'm enjoying it a lot more than Captain Morgan's Revenge. Nice comeback albums for Impellitteri and Rob Rock and the Strato guys. I've heard the new EToS a few days ago and it's a winner as well. I still haven't made my mind about the new Cage and Primal Fear, need to listen to them some more.

And still plenty of good albums to come.

My top 10 so far:

1. Candlemass - Death Magic Doom
2. Anaal Nathrakh - In the Constellation of the Black Widow
3. Cage - Science of Annihilation
4. Kreator - Hordes Of Chaos
5. Destroyer 666 - Defiance
6. Wolf - Ravenous
7. Napalm Death - Time Waits For No Slave
8. Necrophobic - Death To All
9. Saxon - Into the Labyrinth
10. Archgoat - The Light-Devouring Darkness

Honorable mentions to Slough Feg, H&H, DT, Absu, Azarath, Necrodeath, BaN, Rumpelstiltskin Grinder and Samael. It's been a very good year so far. I still have high expectations from Behemoth, Vader, Nevermore, Jag Panzer, Rebellion and Melechesh and I am very curious about Slayer, Immortal, Dragonlord and Persuader. I also saw a list where there was a certain Halford - Halford IV (working title) in December and if that's true that will be a very highly anticipated album for me.

I doubt we are going to see a new Dragonlord this year. In an interview I've read with Eric Peterson (don't remember where) he says they'll be writing new stuff this winter. He also said Rob Halford may be guesting since he asked him couple of times to put him on the new Dragonlord cd.

I'll post the link if i can find that interview.
