Not metal, but ...
John Entwhistle, RIP.

He made it look so easy.

Yep. Almost anything by Maiden. Especially Sea Of Madness if you are looking for outstanding bass work.

Depends on what he's after really...

Cryptopsy - None so Vile for good death metal bassing and any Dream Theater, Rush or the newest Seventh Wonder for the more sick technical approach.

I never understood what was go hard about playing bass unless you're playing Motorhead, with the chords and all.

When I look at Rush Tabs The bass parts are easy to play but the guitar parts are impossible. Even something with chords like "Subdivisions" isn't really that tough.

I love playing chords on bass. Not enough bands do that.

Thank you sir!
It was time someone here aknowledged how awesome and underrated Alex Lifeson's work is. Just listen to the guitar in the 80s-synth era albums, it's discreet, very efficient so nobody thinks it's hard to play yet... It sure as hell is!
Lifeson is as underrated as Andy Summers is in The Police and both are great instrumentalists!

And thank you for mentioning Andy Summers.
Underrated for sure. Same with Stewart Copeland on the skins, though he does get a bit more recognition than his former bandmate.

I think Copeland is a bit shadowed by Neil Peart's recognition, true their styles are a tad similar (Peart being more obvious and boombastic) but Copeland is, indeed, a terrific drummer that doesn't get the credit he deserves.

I'm glad you said that. I plan on incorporating that in my band.

Yeah, I tried playing an effiecient power chord version, but it just didn't work.

Alex is incredible. All those six string chords are insane.

Lifeson>Petrucci

why? because Lifeson sounds better and comes up with the most melodic solos ever.

Awesome suggestions folks.

Our type of metal is melodic death metal on the slower side, with lots of huge epic crushing type riffs. My favourite basslines are some of the super technical fast stuff that brutal tech death play, but that probably wouldn't fit with our stuff. I'll give him all these suggestions though and send him on his way!
