Post subject: Will there be a readers voters poll for 2006?
PostPosted: Fri Nov 24, 2006 10:00 pm
Last year was really cool when we also had the chance to submit our best-off lists. Will it be the same this year too?

If i remember correctly, i was the one who began the thread for "best albums of 2005" last year (i could be wrong).

My point is, there will always be someone who will create the thread for best album for 2006. It wont get done til mid-late december anyway.

Like NESS said, i too have a shit load of albums too. Top 10, yeah right, i have already more than 20. Last year i had over 30. I still have new albums to hear from this year and they keep croping up

He is not referring to a regular thread, but the official poll of Metal Reviews, were the admins count the votes and then reveal them along with the personal choices of the reviewers.

Not sure if it'll happen this year. I think a lot of it was done with Phillips help, and he's the PHP guru. He's very busy now, though. He may not have the time. We can probably figure something out, though.

If nothing else, we can just have polls like we did last year and tally the votes manually. If we get a couple people to help, it wouldn't be that bad.

Yeah, I have a much longer list than last year as well thanks to finally getting hold of the technology to download stuff (boooo).

Still, things have trailed off in the last couple of months... Had a pretty action packed time recently and it's like at the moment I just feel like chillaxing with stuff I know rather than spending literally hours per day looking for new stuff, like I was doing earlier this year until August/September time.

Yeah totally, it would be a proper shame not to have something even if it was all manually done by forumites. Was a lot of fun last year.

Perhaps if everyone posted their top three albums of 2006? Although I haven't heard the new Bal Salgoth or GWAR albums yet, mine would be (so far)-

1. Mastodon - Blood Mountain
2. Dragonforce - Inhuman Rampage
3. Wolfmother - Wolfmother

When you have gathered enough people's recommendations (say no more suggestions after a closing date of 31/01/2006), draw up a poll for the top 10 albums of 2006 with closing date of 31/01/2007 to find the victor!

I've only bought 3 2006 albums this year, so by default it's

1.Tool- 10000 days
2. Mastodon- Blood Mountain
3. Dragonforce- Inhuman Rampage

This could change once I get I- Between Two Worlds though

I haven't got a great deal of 2006 albums, and a few aren't much to write home about. Lately I've been digging up a lot of stuff from the past (anything from last year to the 70s) that either should have gotten round to hearing before or just hadn't heard of.

I'm in the same frame of mind. It's like this year I've been buying back catelogues of bands rather than new stuff. But who wouldn't buy Whoracle over Come Clarity or Hatebreeder over Are You Dead Yet??

1. Archgoat - The Whore of Bethlehem. The debut full length was well worth the 14 year wait.
2. Zemial - In Monumentum. Who would've quessed that the best Bathory-worship album ever would come from Greece!
3. Iron Maiden - A Matter of Life and Death. Iron Maiden. 'Nuff said.
4. Celtic Frost - Monotheist. I was expecting a complete crapfest, but this is actually good. Surprise of the year.
5. Darkthrone - The Cult is Alive. Darkthrone just don't disappoint!
6. Ministry - Rio Grande Blood. Al Jourgensen is more pissed off than ever. Rio Grande Blood sounds more intense than most of the extreme metal stuff released these days, and Ministry didn't even start out as a metal band goddamnit!

There are more, but these are the cream of the crop.

Hmm... i just realized that Archgoat, Zemial, Ministry and Celtic Frost (along with Venom and Reverend Bizarre) have also been the best live shows i've seen this year.

EDIT: OMFG i liek totally forgot Iron Maiden! :omfg:

EDIT: zOMG i forgot teh Ministry! :omfg: :omfg: :omfg:

There are going to be readers polls this year, similar to last year's. We're just working out the specifics, shouldn't be too long, so stay tuned...
