What to you defines a flawless execution of an outstanding metal release? What are some of the characteristics of an awe inspiring album that either becomes the timeless classic or the genre benchmark? Or maybe more down to earth what is the sound a band or subgenre plays that gets the blood flowing.\

Maybe this isn't answering your question, but occasionally I'll hear something and be like "holy shit!" because it sounds so metal. The first time I heard Between the Hammer and the Anvil (Priest) it kicked in with that amazing riff, then Halford does an epic scream and every time I hear it I think that that's the way a metal song should kick in.

Oh, and speaking of metal "sound," I think Machine Head's Burn My Eyes has the most crushing metal sound I've ever heard.
