Youthful energy and ingenuity go hand in hand, for the rarest amongst us. This is the rawest creative act by Åkerfeldt and the two albums which followed. A remarkable debut and one which would never to be repeated.

I'd rather listen to this and siren charms than the new cannibal corpse.

I hear you, buddy. It is a time for inner peace when the world is in such turmoil. It has been immemorial.

I'm listening to something more contemplative and legendary myself.

I cannot say I have listened to much Bathory in my life. But it is never too late. Many years left to enjoy the music of this legendary man.

Everything after Torture is the same album, not sure what to think of this I guess its fine. Rutans solos are good but thats really it.

A difficult day and so accordingly some measure of strength and courage is needed.

^One Road to Asa Bay, Father to Son, and Shore in Flames are some of the best songs he ever did IMO. Honestly, his Viking material is just way better than his black metal era.

I didn't get into the new Cannibal Corpse either, like most of their albums. It's just fucking bland. Not sure why they have so much appeal.

They have appeal because they are bland.

Yet another hellish retreat. I needed some waking up from Bathory. Shall be cooling down again towards night's fall. I personally think Immolation are much better song-writers as they have aged. I find their early recordings not so very interesting, really.

Yes, Steve, I would want to agree with you. His Viking-era has a certain spirit that is never to be replicated anywhere else in his entire outputs. It is absolutely brilliant in its simple elegance and grandeur. Reductive, but never a bore.

Sometimes a Norwegian classic is unrivalled. Well, perhaps not, but I greatly enjoy this recording in spite of any opposing opinion, but also in preparation for the new release.

Everything the title indicates. Still much prefer the later Inquisition to the early recordings.
