When you've been up and running for over thirty years it's impossible to churn out top notch releases each and every time. At some point some album will dip a little in quality, although I think Maiden has been stellar for the most part except a few records, that I personally don't like.

The thing with Maiden is that they are reaching out to a wide audience it seems. Every fan has a different favorite album by them, and that kind of says it all doesn't it? They do their thing, and they're still great at it, even though they may have lost some spark.

From the new era, I guess Brave New World is my definite favorite, even though I enjoy Dance of Death and AMLOAD also. Nothing they have made the last 15 years comes close to their first string of albums though. Not by far.

Death seems to be the exception to that rule.
Though my favorite Death releases begin with Scream Bloody Gore and work backwards sequentially, Schuldiner never made a bad album.

Yeah I agree about Maiden's output circa 1980 -1984 vs. anything after, BTW.

I disagree with the idea that good bands get worse over time. All of my favourite bands have kept roughly the same level of quality through all their albums, except maybe a few early albums where they didn't know what they were doing yet.

They've had their ups and downs, certainly some releases weaker than others. .

Never been a fan of the music but if you criticize Bono for his philanthropy stuff you're fucking ridiculous.

I can and I will. This is Bono's (and to a lesser extent Geldoff's) argument...

"I am extremely rich and famous. I got rich because I am in a band. I play songs and it makes me money. So, I have achieved my wealth by being an entertainer. However, I have millions of screaming, adoring fans who worship me. Deep down they think I am an idol; a messiah. I experience this during my very large and popular live concerts. The problem is, I know I am just an entertainer, but the evidence of the crowd in front of me suggests I am more than that. I am so confused, because I know I didn't really do anything that special to warrant this attention. Now I feel something unwelcome. It feels like guilt, or some sort of insecurity. So how do I make it go away? I know, I'll find a worthy cause that justifies my existence as a messiah. Hmm, what could I choose that has broad audience appeal with a seemingly obvious solution? Aha! Starving and poor black people in Africa! It's perfect. They are hungry because they are poor. I am not hungry because I am rich. So, I am an expert on the situation. Ok, now that I understand the economic, cultural, socio-political and environmental causes of an entire continent's problems, I can smugly tell qualified international experts how to fix it! Fucking ace! Now who's not just an entertainer? I feel validated."

Yep, I guess I am fucking ridiculous. But at least I'm not as ridiculous as Bono.

Yeah maybe Bono wouldn't have to provide aid to the sick in Africa if the thousand dollar shoes and jackets he wore were made in factories which provided the people with living wages as opposed to a small percentage of what they really needed.

lol I love you guys.

I glance over the first page, and it's something about U2 sucking ass.

Skip over to the fourth, and - somehow, as always - it's listing favourite Death albums and defending Cannibal Corpse!

I think it's funnier not looking at pages 2 and 3 to find out how it got there.
