Overrated:
Anything by Tool.
3 Inches Of Blood's singer, you have to be crazy to hire a singer that annoying.
In Flames's Jester Race. This CD just seemed mediocre at best to me. Sure it had December Flower, but there really was nothing special about this "classic". 'Just say I liked Soundtrack better.
"The Gallery" I agree with you guys on this one.
St. Anger. All the lashes at it and it is still overrated.
Obviously most raved about bands (Between the Buried and Me, Dimmu Borgir, Lame of God). None of them ever deliver, except Mastodon.
But there can be no album as overrated as Opeth's Ghost Reveries. This was the worst album I've heard thus far, the only thing I liked about it was how the music drastically changes from song to song. It's like they are trying to make their boring music exciting.
Underrated:
Honestly I didn't think Soundtrack to your Escape was too bad an album, worth the two bucks I found it for in a discount bin. Sure the vocals were bad, there were too many keyboards, and Evil in a Closet was there, but Superhero of the Computer Rage, F(r)iend, and In Search for I were bad songs at all. The rest weren't too bad, either. Not as bad as you say at least.
And Trivium's Crusade is an album that grows on you like wine. The vocals may be bad and they have become Metallica wannabes, but that really doesn't constitute a bad album. Give this one a couple of spins and you might like it. Might.
Doesn't like Tool or Opeth, likes Trivium?!
