Well I think it's not impossible to break a bass string. I've seen people do it. It depends on how you're playing style is and frankly, how you treat ur bass.

By the way, does anyone have any opinions on the pickups? I think it's good for now. Any recommendations?

You wont need new pickups unless you break them.

Not neccesarily. I have never broke pickups but i have changed them to achieve better tone .

And he did get an ibanez so he is either going to love that tone forever, or seek new pickups quickly.

I have had great results with the EMG PJ active pickups. They have a line of them for the 5 string.

dude he bought it yesterday, you should get good beofre you start forking out money for things like that. You like the tone in the shop right??? there honestly no need, and pick ups only have a limmited effect on your instruments tone anyway. An amp is a much better way to do it (change you tone), or an effects pedel. Really you won't need to change you pick ups!!

You've got a point there. That was what I was thinking anyway. In fact I could not find any flaw with the bass yet. I haven't picked up slapping and popping, so I didn't try it. My friend had a go with it and he said the slap-pop tone was great. Anyway I don't think slap-pop is a skill I'm gonna pick up, cos frankly I don't look up to it much. Over here in Malaysia, when there are band competitions, all the bassists needs to do is slap and he'll get laid that night. But somehow I've never looked up to it (slap n pop). Maybe to me it's just isn't metal enough. :dio:

yeah i wan't saying he needed to grab new pickups now but eventualy if he did want to do upgrade them thats what i recomend.

How can you say though that pickups only have a limited effect? The amp and effects can shift it, but the pick up is what it all starts with and no amount of effects can change that its the sound of the pickups.

well its actually the sound of your guitar but yes the pick ups are of course very important for tone. However they are limited by your instruments tone. The greatest pickups in the world would make terrible guitar sound a lot better but it is after all limited by the instrument in the first place. Thats what i meant.

Well IMO I think the pick ups make the most difference. What you said is true. My friend had this cheap shitty guitar which sounded like fuck. But he spent quite a bit on some Seymour Duncan pick ups, and now the guitar sounds awesome. I have no idea which gives the est sound, but I heard that the Zakk Wilde issue is so far the best.

And speaking about amps, they do make a difference.Your settings plays a big role. So far I've seen many bands here in Malaysia with awesome guitars, they've got the best shit. From strings to the pick ups. But when you hear them play, it's awful. They are pretty illiterate in adjustiing their amp settings.
