Well, they are really different genres, ok. But Napalm Death & Nasum are in the same genre than Death & Cynic, or Cannibal corpse, and them all appear under Death genre (with some melodeath bands).

Yeah, that's why I think we need to add Grind. Maybe Melodeath and Tech Death too, perhaps?

Melodic death is in the list... but I supose it was added after some bands were tagged as death :)

Tech Death as well as Death? Meh, if we're going to start including subgenres why not add Classic Rock in? Brutal Death? Industrial Death?

Yeah, I'm kind of lukewarm on adding Tech Death, but I do think Post-Rock and Grind (or Grindcore) need to be added.

If I was going to add subgenres to Death, I would stop at Tech Death and Brutal Death personally, but I'm not so sure we shouldn't just leave it at Death only, now that I moved all the melodeath bands out of there.

I agree with this mostly, but I think the doom ones are valid since each is so distinct. Its important to separate the likes of Candlemass from the likes of Thergothon, in my opinion.

I'd put Thergothon in the Death Metal category.

Now you lost me. Then we'd have Cryptopsy and Thergothon showing up in the same search. You think that's accurate?!

But how are they bullshit? I realize that all of these bands are within the same genre essentially, but yet so many are radically different than one another. I think sub-genres clearly help separate the different styles within the genre, and I certainly appreciate that they are catagorizes in a very in depth way in general.

I think the genre tags are for the lazy people who don't read reviews. They just read the tag and the rate... I hate lazy people.

A bit cynical, don't you think? What about people who genuinely want to explore a genre they are new to?

Guess I didn't realize they had the market covered.

So you're saying that by having an accurate search engine, whereby readers can find similar artists to those in a review they enjoyed, we are enabling laziness? Are you ever satisfied?

What do you mean? People give albums a better rating just because of how it's tagged? Or are you saying that people skip over reviews albums that aren't tagged with something they're interested in?

But we're not talking about genres in the review, we're talking about genres in the search page...

They're different things.

The current system works fine. You want Death Metal, search for that, and then explore all the subgenres as stated in the reviews! Simple.
