How are we doing? We've bought aboard five new reviewers, doubled the number of weekly reviews... is there anything you'd like to see done, or done differently, or not done at all? Speak your brains here.

Metal Reviews uber alles!

A greater focus on recent releases would be nice...

We're trying to get to it all, but it's rather difficult getting everything done. And, there are tons of earlier stuff that needs to be reviewed too..

I'd like to see the selection of albums reviewed expand to encompass cds that are often not on a "true" metal fan's list. There's a lot of realy good metalcore that merits reviews, for example.

I'd add to Thomas' point that we are barely in the second week of 2009, so we're not doing so bad.

The obvious answer to this is to point out all the non-true stuff that does get reviewed. I wouldn't call Pearl Jam, Nick Cave, Rush, Volbeat, or Norma Jean 'true', to take examples from this week's reviews alone. Still, and here comes my own personal view; I'd review more metalcore if more was worth reviewing. The last good albums from the genre I heard were the last Bleeding Through and Burst (especially Burst) albums. A lot of the rest is so damn similar, and when you have to sit and write something original about an album like that... it's horrible.

I've been doing some hardcore bordering on metalcore lately.. Including Norma Jean. I have done Jeroan Drive, and will do Social Suicide for next week as well.. Take your time and check it out. As Zad says, there aren't really that much metalcore that grabs my interest out there, and when it does it'll get a review. It's more important to cover the "real metal", in lack of better terms, out there. In my opinion at least.

And I forgot to mention something. 3-4 of us have suggestion threads. What about using those a little more frequently?

DEP needs some more reviews before generic metalcore.

Maybe create a better mixture of obscure and well-known reviews.

Have you heard the (relatively) new Unearth? What about Silent Civilian? And Hatesphere's The Sickness Within also deserves. Just some examples.
