right. you know, when you're walking down the street or are in the subway or whatever, you see another metalhead (that you don't know), do you salute them or something?

i see them all the time but i never say anything because they'll probably think i'm making fun of them (note: i don't look metal at all).

just wondering if you do that.

Well I sorta do, but I know all of the real Metalheads around here. So I have a reason to say "Hello". If it's Hot Topic kids I just tell them to die and move along.

i'm more likely to nod at someone wearing a Yes t-shirt or something psychedelic looking than someone bedecked in studs and denim. the noticeably obvious metalheads tend to be of the mallgoth or bay-thrash-and-power persuasions and I don't really have much to say to them..

I don't salute someone I don't know but I do look if someone has long hair like me and is wearing a band t-shirt or something like that, sort of like acknowledging their presence.

No. It reminds me of some horrible series of adverts Kerrang! TV were running a few years ago where these two awful posers were 'talking music' with an old-school guy.

One of the ads had this utterly gormless, hacket, shaven headed girl saying "You ever notice, right, trendies don't acknowledge each other, but if you see a mosher you can be like ``alright!``"

(For the British members it sounded like: "You ever naowtice, roight, trendies don't ack-now-ledge each uvvah, but if you see a moshah you can be laak ``awright!``")

I don't like thinking someone is automatically my friend because we like similar music. Lots of arsehats listen to Metal.

But then there's no harm in complimenting a particualr t-shirt or something. You can't be in a rock pub/club in glasgow without getting saluted for your Manowar t-shirt. :)

I don't think I've ever seen a metalhead.

The one time I've ever run into another metalhead here, I complimented her shirt, and we proceeded to get into a half-hour discussion of all the things we had in common and became friends. This is after three years of never seeing another metalhead, ever.

I always give my salutes to fellow true metal brethrens :P.

If i feel like it i'd just chat up with them. I enjoy chatting about music, still it doesnt mean i'd accept them as friends on the go.

I may compliment someone's band T-shirt occasionally. And i shoot the shit with fellow metalheads at gigs and bars.

I do while browsing the music store. Occassionaly, someone in the metal section will comment on the cd that I have in my hands or vice versa. The music store that I go to has a listening booth, and I've had a couple instances were a metalhead gave me his headphones to have a llsten.

I never say anything either, it's weird. I mean, occasionally someone may say to me, "Nice shirt, dude!" obviously referring to the band, but I just go "Thanks." and keep walking. Hahaha. What the hell am I supposed to say? That's why I never say anything, shit is just weird.

I saw Charlotte Martin last week, she's like Tori Amos in style. I wore my The Haunted shirt. Hahaha. I'm sitting there with my ex-girlfriend and up walks this dude in a fucking Immolation shirt! Hahaha. We both looked at each other, but said nothing. Likely he was thinking what I was thinking, "Fuck...I just caught at a chick show!" Hahahaha.

In my case, there's no one else to acknowledge. I live in a place populated by hippies, dykes, preps and frat boys.

HAHA yea I guess after seeing something like that it would ruin the whole "acknowledging" experience. I've gotten complimented a few times while wearing an Iron Maiden T-shirt, and a few times I have struck up conversations with people who were listening to metal or who wore certain clothes. Yes there are plenty of wierdos out there but I have made friends and met other musicians just by mentioning something trivial.

Same. However, I am quite lucky to still be in contact with 3 people from high school into metal. Sure 2 of them got more into metal with my help, but I don't try to forcibly convert people, just show them the path.
