I liked Roger and Me. Bowling for Columbine was spotty and well I don't feel like bringing up Fahrenheit. I'll just say I'm not a fan.

The other night I was at my local annual horror all nighter. Here are the films I saw and a short review and rating for each.

Loft: Yet another Japanese ghost thing, and exactly what you'd expect from something like that. This one made no sense at all. But not in a cool "huh?" way like Audition. More of a lame "wtf?" way. 4/10

Boy Eats Girl: This was pretty funny all the way through, and quite gory, despite the fact it only had a 15 certificate. I enjoyed it, but it was still a total Braindead rip off- just less memorable. 6/10

Zombie Honeymoon: Contrary to what you'd think from the title, this was pretty much played straight, and was much better for it. Vastly superior to the nearest comparison, plotwise: RotLD3. Some parts were even quite sad, and the audience was allowed to find their own humour in the ridiculous situations that arose, rather than have it hammered into them through a load of very obvious gags. This film would be awesome if it hadn't completely lost it in the last half hour. Amazing psychobilly soundtrack, as well. 7/10

Hellavator: Crazy Japanese Sci-Fi horror about some people stuck a lift with some total psychos. Lots of violence and freakyness ensues. There's a lot more to it than this, but it's very hard to explain. But the two escaping convicts are the freakiest and most alarming bad guys I've seen for ages. And it has a total curveball of an ending involving the Eiffel Tower, for some reason. 8/10

Amelie. Great film!

Funny, the three films that I've seen Audrey Tatou in (Amelie, A Very Long Engagement and Dirty Pretty things) have all been excellent, even though she's not the world's greatest actress. Subtitled films are nearly always better than Hollywood crud, a mon avis.

Indeed.
A Very Long Engagement must be one of my favorite movies this year.

The book is better. But the film was good.

Second one was shit. The teacher was a pill-popping nutcase, though. Entertaining.

Beyond Re-Animator. Yet another sequel that fails to live up to the original.

"Over the Top"

I forgot how funny this movie is. If you want to see 80's action, and laugh, watch this. Sylvester Stallone's son is such baby in this movie. "Sir, excuse me Sir?"

Yeah... I loved the way the kids escaped at the end of BR2, to start a utopian new life......

....in Afghanistan.

No, idiots are what he exploits.

He's actually fiendishly intelligent.
