just had "McEwan's Real Scottish Ale 80"

quite agreeable, but wouldn't care for a second pint.

hadn't had ale since my Nottingham days in 2008... it's fucking heavy considering it's less alcoholic than most beers.

This Milwaukee brewery used to be one of the top 2 brewers in the USA in the 1950s but fell on hard times and had to be bought and rebranded by Pabst. It is a light-tasting lager that would be best on a hot day.

Brewed in Cincinnati, Wiedemann's was the top beer in the South in 1900, but like Schlitz, fell on hard times, and has also been bought and rebranded.

I really don't like this shit though, too hoppy and fruity for me: I'd much prefer a malty brown ale to this light colored but heavy tasting stuff.

Ballantine was another very popular beer in the 1950s which has since been rescued and rebranded by Pabst. America's oldest pale ale, I've heard the original formula was stronger flavored, but whatever, this stuff is good today too. Heavier than a lager but still on the light side.

Located in Rochester NY since 1878, Genesee Brewing is probably my favorite brewer. Yes, they are under a massive conglomerate now (like everyone else) but the plant there is still a keystone to Rochester. The Cream ale is very sweet-tasting and the light is the best light beer I've ever had.

I'd recommend the Genny Cream or the Ballantine as being unique enough to try, and one should be able to find both in the Eastern half of the USA in most large sellers.

The upgraded version. Even heavier, even better.

dude! i had that in Paris a bunch of times over the past couple of months. awesome stuff.

i'm leaving for Brazil soon. wine there is 6-8 times more expensive than in Europe, even Chilean and Argentinean wine is more expensive than in Europe, and the local stuff when good is still poor value for money. agreed to open at least 1 bottle per night with my roommates until i leave. gonna do
Cahors
Jura whites, oxidated, with some aged Comte
Chinon red
2009 Bordeaux left bank and right bank
Alsace Riesling
Alsace Gewurztraminer and Pinot Gris if we can get it cheap
same for Sauternes
Cru Beaujolais

bought this blueberry beer a couple nights ago, drank 2 of them, it's 8%. it was alright, a little sharp on the aftertaste since it's 8%.

I gotta find a higher percentage that's not some fruity shit.

Hah, agreed there.

I also recently had the malt-heavy Sam Adam's Oktoberfest, which was good and my favorite of their seasonal beers: Summer is ok but a bit fruity while the Spring was terrible attempt at Central Europe.

One more: a case of Straub amber (I posted about them earlier on page 2), which is an excellent dark lager. And thanks to their minimizing of additives like salt or sugar, hangovers are harder to come by!

I love the Sam Adams' spring. I don't know why honestly but I do.

In terms of high alcohol content with minimal bite in taste, Stone's Double Bastard at 11.2% or Dogfish Head's Palo Santo at 12%. But I dig bourgy craft beers.

Wiedemann's is fucking gross, ebd. I'd probably put Genesee in that same category.

And I've noticed that PBR gives me headaches quite often :(

A few Dogfish heads are pretty good, I'll give you that. (can't recall which ones I liked, maybe the Red?) No clue how one could compare Wiedemann's to Genesee though. Wiedemann's has all kinds of weird shit going on, Genesse is very clean tasting by comparison.

If you like heavy fruit beers, you ought to try Mariage Parfait beers. Not easy to get a hold of, though.

Any whiskey/scotch recommendations? gonna start to build a liquor cabinet instead of drinking bottles of Quebecois rum.

my friends favour Laphroaig, think Zad is a fan too.

my uncle had a huge collection, his favourite was Glenfiddich.

yeah. What are you gonna call it a bitch beer? I never had it before and I always like cranberry...just need a drink to sip on. Not trying to get drunk as I can hardly get drunk anyways unless I have a bunch of liquor.
