I really enjoyed it. A friend who also liked it described it as a simpler (aka less characters but equally twisted) Games of Thrones which I haven't read so I really can't tell if the comparison is valid.
I'd describe it as adult fantasy with devious yet appealing characters.

First, "emphatically" should probably never be there because the choice of words should convey the emphaticness. Second, the italics shouldn't be there because italics read like a internet post that capitalizes words for emphasis. Third, the italics and the adverb do the same thing so together one of them is redundant. Doing something poorly and twice bums me out. Then again the prevalence of this stuff in popular novels makes me think people read books for different stuff than me. It makes my search for good fantasy hard :(

Have you read The First Law?

Brilliant triology. You have to be realistic about these things. Really should read more Abercrombie.

Re the writing in The Name of the Wind, it may be that I don't notice as much since English is not my first language. When I read I'm usually after a really good story, and don't really pay that much attention to writing. But I have to admit that Rothfuss strikes me as a brilliant writer compared to, say Robert Jordan.

I've read all six novels set in the First Law universe. The standalones are not as good as the trilogy but still a good read.
Now I'm eager to start his new one, Half a King, of which I don't know (and don't wan't to know) anything except it's supposed to be aimed at a younger audience. We'll see...

And I'm with you, Thomas, English is not my first language either and I'm just looking for a good story, something that Abercrombie provides easily.

Haven't read the standalones yet, but I have them all on my shelf. Once I'm finished with a triology, or a single book for that matter, from a specific universe, I tend to read other stuff before I start the next one just to freshen things up a bit. It has been way to many books between The Last Argument of Kings and his standalone works. Will have to do one of them when I'm finished with one of the four I'm currently reading.

Which would you suggest in that case? Or should they be read in chronological order?

One word of advice if I may: Half a King's followers will be relased on february and novembrer 2015, I predict a frustrating wait since the first book is that good. So read the standalones first.

I'm a massive Hellboy/Mignola nut, so I'm giving this a shot.

I had a dream Thomas Pynchon wrote a fantasy novel. It was like The Last Airbender in that there were groups of monks who could 'bend' various elements, but instead of using the four-element earth/air/fire/water as a base, Tommy used the periodic table. So there were hydrogen benders, helium benders, oxygen benders, einsteinium benders, etc. Some of the powers were more useful than others.

Finished Amis' The Information. Starting to doubt I'll like any of his other stuff as much as Success, but I liked the last half more than the first half. idk

Almost done A Feast for Crows. It has been a long grind, but the second half is far more interesting.

The weakest one of the bunch so far.

Just have to read the last Samwell chapter and I'll be onto A Dance With Dragons. I agree with it being the worst so far, but as I said earlier, the second half is much much better than the first. I did not expect Jaime to throw the distress letter into the fire.

I think I have to re-read ASoIaF. Plowed through them in like a month. Don't remember much other than the major events.

Does someone have any opinion on:
Scott Lynch - The Lies of Locke Lamora
and
Paolo Bacigalupi - The Windup Girl ?

One or the other will be my next read.
