In general the article takes the "scary" perspective on a lot of initiatives that i think will help make universities more inviting to a greater diversity of students
I thought the article took a very practical and even-handed approach to the current situation. As the authors stated, the "rational person" application has largely been abandoned for a totally arbitrary approach for what constitutes harassment. It's an impossible standard to uphold. Furthermore, college is not supposed to make students feel emotionally safe and comfortable, it's intended to test a person's intellectual vigor and personal work ethic. And honestly, professors utilize triggers to cover their backsides more than anything else. Some of the actual examples utilized by the authors would be laughable if they weren't actually real. Grow some balls, people. The fact that students at Missouri University want to rid the campus of a statue of Thomas Jefferson because it's reflective of some sort of long-held systemic oppression is just dumb. You can't apply 21st century racial sensibilities to the socially accepted viewpoints of centuries long past. The man was our third president, a co-author of the Declaration of Independence and the founder of the University of Virginia. This sort of thinking will only continue to divide people rather than bring about any sort of racial reconciliation.

All this trigger and micro-aggression bullshit is nothing more than simple faggotry.
It is pretty weak to be honest. Be a man and address your grievances face to face with an individual rather than go to administration. Most people will respect your position if you confront them in a direct but professional manner rather than go behind their back.
