A few things you can try.
1) Update her wireless card driver
2) Check if she has a firewall enabled.
3) Assuming you have windows, boot into safe mode with networking and check if the speed is better.
4) Turn off all devices connected to the router for about 5 minutes, then turn on the modem (if you have one), the router and then the two comps.
5) Reset the router
6) Get into the router page and try to change the channel.
Also make sure there are no devices close by that might interfere with the wireless signal. For eg: a cordless phone.
