I'm planning on getting a Sony NWZA816B 4GB video walkman, on hearing that the sound quality is much better than that of iPods. Just thought I'd better check with you lot in case they're well known for spontaneously combusting, or something!

I bought a Sony one thinking that it would have better sound quality and I guess the sound quality was pretty good but the computer program it used was the most godawful piece of shit ever and it was one of the bigger wastes of money that I've had in my life. When I bought an iPod and realized how easy it was to use iTunes I was like "Y DID I DEAL WITH THAT FOR A YEAR >>><<<"; and I also can't tell the difference between an iPod and CD on my speakers, which r like pretty expensive and stuff.

Really? I thought you could just synchronise it with WMP11. Apparently they've stopped using Sonicstage, if that's where you had the problem...

And I've heard too much about how unreliable iPods are to get one of them.

Yeah it was sonicstage that I didn't like, I guess if they're not using that anymore then it should be fine.

I've had my iPod for a year and anything that's gone wrong with it I've just been able to fix by restarting it :\

i've had an ipod since late 2004 i think and it's given me some trouble, but nothing a "restore to factory settings" couldn't solve. haven't had the "replace battery" problem yet, but i told you that because it truly is a weakenss when you compare the ipod to the Creative players (with cheap replaceable batteries).

all in all i'm satisfied with my ipod, and itunes is nice.

iPods uses lithium ions and after some time the cycles expire. It's not really a problem, it's supposed to be like that.

I really don't like Apple, the iPod, or Macs... I think you're wise to go with Sony instead. Looks like you have a pretty solid buy there man, I've not heard anything negative about Sony's line of video walkmans and I'm a Sony buyer myself for most forms of technology.

I don't really care for the iPod as I said. I had a little 4 gigger awhile back and the battery doesn't even hold charge anymore after not even 2 years of use. That and for no reason I'd have to reset it later in its life cycle as it'd freeze on me or just completely lock up. Don't know if it was just a bad model or run of the model or what.

the problem isn't the fact that they die, it's the fact that you can't replace it yourself.

Don't buy that stuff about Sony's having better sound quality than iPod's; or anything having better sound quality than iPod's for that matter. It's not just me saying that; check out this link. The people at that site are huge audiophile's and know way more about this type of stuff than anyone here, so I pretty much just trust them.

Also, I've had my 30 G iPod Video for more than two years and have had absolutely no problems with it. Plus, iTunes is ridiculously easy to use so you won't screw anything up syncing your iPod unless you're retarded. I've said this before, but I used to be an anti-iPod person until I actually got one and realized how much they pwn pretty much anything else on the market.

I disagree. Supporting Apple is like supporting Nintendo.

It's the devil.

Yes. I've heard too much bad stuff about iPods all in all. Ordered the 8GB Sony, will keep y'all updated.

By being super gimmicky and relying pretty much strictly on first party titles for the past few generations to support their business. They need to open up to more third party development and create a console that's not a couple generations behind as they have the past 3.

Sorry for the nerdy rant, I'm a die hard gamer. I know, I have all the best qualities. :P

Sorry, but this is pretty much entirely bullshit. The N64 a couple generations behind? Almost, except for the fact that it was the first to make a good 3-D platforming game to define the genre, made the first great console first person shooter, and defined the 3D action adventure category with Ocarina of Time. In terms of graphics, it was just as good, if not better than the PS I. I fail to see how it was behind the times.

Gamecube too, in terms of capabilities, was perfectly with the times and all, except for in online play. It is an underrated system that did, however, need much better third party support.

As for the Wii, there's no denying that its behind the times in graphics. Frankly, I don't give a damn; once graphics have reached the level of Twilight Princess and Metroid Prime 3, anything further is nice, but not make or break. Call the Wii-mote gimmicky all you want, but it is an original concept that can make games a lot more fun when done right- Metroid Prime 3's and Medal of Honour Heroes 2's controls beat out any console FPS, and games like Wii sports, Twilight Princess and Scarface are made much more fun through the use of the Wii mote. As for third party support, the Wii is getting lots- Call of Duty 5, Medal of Honour Series, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, Assassin's Creed will be coming, the new Brother in Arms, etc... Lots of third party games coming to the Wii, and it looks like third party developers are finally getting use to the Wii mote as well.

Sorry for the nerdy rant as well, but I too enjoy gaming a lot too, and I feel like Nintendo gets a lot of unfair criticism these days. I got no problem with people enjoying the X Box 360 or PS3 more- they're great systems (particularly the 360), but give credit where credit's due.

Oh, and though I have an Ipod which compares favourably with the old sony MP3 player I used to have (back in the old Sonicstage time too), Apple is indeed the devil.

I've always found nintendo games like Smash brothers, mario kart, and Zelda about a billion times more fun to play than any playsation or xbox games. Also I think the Wii gimmick was a way better idea than Sony's blu-ray gimmick
