The French Connection! What a fucking great movie! Puts Pacino's Scarface to shame and makes Dirty Harry look like a sissy!
If you haven't seen it yet, do!

haven't seen Expendables 2 yet, but my cousin says they waste Scott Adkins (aka the ridiculously badass YURI BOYKA from Undisputed 2 and 3).

i am unsure on whether i want to see it. my cousin derives great satisfaction from hearing one liners and seeing old people fighting each other because they aren't just any old people, they are chuck norris and sylvester stallone and shit. i don't want to see old people fighthing, regardless of who they are.

Indeed. Outrageous ageism from Azrael, who presumably prefers to watch children fighting.

;-)

Antichrist.

This... is going to take a little time to digest. Lots of ideas and symbolism at work here in a not-so-coherent fashion. And I loved it.

Lars Von Trier is a sensationlist hack. I fucking hate his movies.

Melancholia was a total bore, so I'm surprised that I found Antichrist so fascinating (and not because of the explicit sex and gore). Those are the only two Von Trier films I've seen though, so I've yet to form an opinion of his work overall.

They are making a third one too. With Sean Connery.

I don't think I agree with Thrash here, even if Trier's Dancer in the Dark was sort of a ripoff of Kieslowski's Short Film about Killing, and Trier's Breaking the Waves was sort of a ripoff of Kieslowski's Decalog part 9.

Or maybe I was just charmed by Bjork in Dancer too much.

getting a ton of famous action heroes and writing up movies where half the content is referencing their older works stinks of lazy filmmaking. the Expendables franchise is becoming the Love Actually of the action movie world.

on a different note, i just watched this scene from Watchmen again the other day - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=odjsRY4Scrc - and was floored. it's amazing. i for one loved the movie adaptation. it's better to stick too closely to the source material than to stray too far. apparently the DVD has the Tales of the Black Freighter bits as well. thinking of buying it. what do you guys think?

Except Love Actually was one of the best films of its genre, Expendables isn't.

I do but I'm pretty sure it's been done before, granted, mostly with War Movies and Westerns of the 60s and 70s but the principle of a multi-stars action male casting reminds me of The Seven Mercenaries or The Dirty Dozen.
Hardly a surprise that it's been done before actually, Hollywood executives are lazy greedy bastards totally uninterested in motion picture as an art and thus recycle every formula that has worked in the past hoping it still will.
