Well, she *was* a politician...

Watched Attack The Block last night. Like a poor episode of Misfits without the laughs.

True Lies. crap, way too long. the action scenes were ridiculous in a good way, but they way they got the guy's wife involved in the story was just way too contrived. the interrogation scene was fucking stupid.

You are the only person I know to ever say anything bad about True Lies.

Yeah... I know. I just despise Arnorld.

True Lies has always been a guilty pleasure of mine. It had some humor, didn't take itself too seriously: now every action movie is the MOST EPIC comic book movie ever made.

Does not compute. He's not supposed to be a good actor. He's supposed to be an absurd badass.

He's an amusing badass at best. He's absurdity does not reach a level I value as something of any class or prestige. What you call "badass" has to be a "character." The only thing Arnorld has is a hilarious accent.

He is one of the most entertaining 'actors' ever, and adds a level of gleeful enjoyment to any film he's in. Obviously if you watch expecting Pacino, you're going to be sorely disappointed...

Pacino isn't that good an actor. Schwarzenegger isn't that good a badass. Like 'em both, however.

HERETIC. Rewatch Godfather and compare/contrast Michael at the start & at the end. Chilling. And rewatch Commando for the bit where Arnie throws men off him like matchsticks, and the bit where he paddles around in a boat in speedos for literally no reason. Just as chilling.

What the hell is going on in here?

First of all, saying Pacino is not a good actor is like saying Freddie Mercury is not a good singer. Your opinion doesn't matter because it's obvious how silly it is.

Second, Schwarzenegger is one of the coolest people alive. The guy has achieved everything he has set out to do in his life. He became Mr Universe or whatever it's called multiple times, he had an amazing career in films, plus he became the fucking governor of Califonia! If anything, this guy is underrated. I think I've seen every film he has starred in, and I honestly think he adds a lot to each film. I can't imagine Total Recall, Terminator or The Predator without him and those are some pretty fucking sick films.

Nobody said Al Pacino isn't a good actor, especially not me. Of course he is. All I'm saying is he's not the god of acting people are eager to believe he is. When I see Pacino, I often see a character, and pretty much always the same. He's tremendous at what he does, but I'm not sure he could play just anything.

On Schwarzenegger, he had (has) a great life in which he achieved a huge deal. But his performance on-screen was often not voluntarily hilarious. He was badass in Conan, perfect as the Terminator, but then he had to play good guys. And he became a (famous, well-payed, popular and much respected) joke. But again: I LIKE HIM NONETHELESS.

:)

@Zad: lol at the paddling thing, I have to rewatch this movie :D

It's a masterpiece. Love the bit at the beginning where he's dissing Boy George ("Why don't they just call him Girl George?")

Commando is so awesome. The action and oneliners are just in a league of their own. It's so great and beyond ridiculous it almost approaches parody territory, and that's what makes it great.

As far as movies go, I'd probably rank Terminator 1 and 2, Conan the Barbarian and Predator somewhere in my top 20 movies of all time list. I love me some 80's action!

Two Facts:

1. Al Pacino in the two first Godfathers is Mesmerizing. Those two movies are two of my favourites in the history of cinema.
2. Arnorld's personal life has nothing to do with his performance on the screen, period!

Oh I think he can play just about anything, problem is, during the post-Scarface era in the 90s he got typecast/lazy and did a lot of those shouting type roles. That style worked tremendously in films like Heat when he was the perfect contrast to De Niro's restrained character, but it also led to somewhat cringeworthy performances like Devil's Advocate. But as an actor he has shown lots of subtlety in certain performances, not just 70s films like Dog Day Afternoon or the Godfathers, but even more recent movies like Donnie Brasco or Insomnia.

He has crossed the line into self-parody at times, sure, but I generally think he's almost become underrated at this point, because De Niro is just as guilty of the self-parodying routine, but gets away with it more easily because his style is generally more subdued.
