American Pie: Reunion - loved it. closes the book on the series perfectly, definitely watch it if you like the original 3 movies.

Saw Titanic a few days ago. Didn't even notice it was in 3D. Great movie though and gets better every time I see it.

Hmm, disagree... fun film, but a lot wrong with it. Eg from two very different sources:

Do you dislike the film because you've read those articles?

No, like I said, fun film. I can remember being annoyed at Rose for the closed-eye axe swing when I watched it originally, though.

Finally, even though she knew Bill Paxton was searching for the necklace, and he hella patiently listened to her stupid story (it's like she writes erotic fan fiction about herself), that old lady just goes and drops it into the ocean at the end!!! Like, seriously, old lady? First of all, you're a dick. Second of all, that necklace belongs in a museum. Third of all, you're a dick!

You probably have to be a bit of a romantic to appreciate it. It's slowly becoming one of my favourite films. Plus I fucking love Leonardo Dicaprio, everything he stars in is better thanks to him.

To each his own: The 1995 version of 'Pride & Prejudice' stands as my go to if I'm in that extremely rare romantic mood.

And heck, it doesn't get more life-affirmingly awesome than the ending of 'Das Leben Der Anderen'. If one wants to feel good about humanity they should watch that.

Dicaprio is a very captivating and powerful actor. I loved his performance in the movie "The Departed" among a few more that do not come to mind at this moment.

Most reviews says that it's beautifully shot, but the plot is very... unexistent. I'll have to watch it and form my own opinion.

Right. It's "non-existent" not "unexistent" :)

I really haven't been in a mood for a movie in a long time.

I Love You, Phillip Morris. Jim Carrey being an eccentric gay man re-enacting Catch Me If You Can... Umm it was pretty good compared to the next movies I watched.

Human Centipede 2. Luckily, I didn't have to see the first one because there were enough flashbacks to fill me in. This movie was so fucking grotesque and basically worthless. Most horror series wait till the sixth or seventh sequel to get all meta and start recognizing the film is a film but they do this in the first sequel. It's seriously fucked up. Any coherence the first film may have had has been thrown out apparently in order to amp up the obscenity.

Titanic II. Yes. How? How? A commemorative voyage a century later with a newly built boat. Then global warming causes a glacier to fall into the ocean unleashing a tsunami. An 800 mph tsunami. Yes. That fucking stupid. The tsunami itself does not topple the boat but it launches an iceberg into the side of the boat. And the boat designers only prepared the boat to run headlong into an iceberg. They weren't prepared for side damage. It was fucking bad and should totally be re-edited to be a porno. The actors and actresses looked the part and there were some definite moments that I was afraid it was going to devolve into that.

Oklahoma (1998 stage version) - Hugh Jackman is awful good at singing. I felt bad for Judd :-(

Cabaret (1972~ movie version) - Liza Minelli and Joel Grey were super great. Awesome choreography, sexy and minimal in a way that suited the creepy/disorienting tone of the movie. I think Sam Mendes' stage version did some stuff a lot better though. (Movie was a bit heavy handed and blunt at times, and it didn't mesh the relationship of their private lives with the rise of the Nazis as well as the stage version did.)

Philosophy grad students organize a film night and I got stuck facilitating the discussion on Blade Runner tonight. I have shit to do that isn't watching films but it's kinda fun. Supposed to discuss Descartes' mind//body dualism in relation to AI, late capitalism, freedom and revolution.
