fucking hated True Grit. boring.

the Coen brothers can piss off. i haven't seen Fargo (still want to), Burn After Reading was total shite and The Big Lebowski is - dare i say it? - criminally overrated.

Haven't seen True Grit but agree with everything else, The Big Lebowski is meh.

Seriously, I watched the movie really high and I couldn't laugh even once during the whole movie. Such a waste of fine weed

Lameness is the new coolness.
Nah really, Fargo did nothing to me, O Brother was average, Lebowski was OK. I just don't get the hype around that kind of movies.

edit: and Burn after reading was disappointing.

Seriously, wtf guys.

I wasn't super impressed with Burn After Reading the first time I saw it, but it's gotten exponentially better on second and third watchings. All of the characters are beautifully loathsome and despicable. And Fargo is pure gold. Hilarious and intense at the same time.

I'd probably recommend Raising Arizona and Blood Simple as intros to the Coen brothers since those are their most 'normal' movies (while still being really, really good).

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo - 'twas OK. Haven't seen the ones in Swedish, nor read the books. Should I?

edit: the movie is rated "12 and above" in France, which is completely outrageous.

I saw the first Swedish film, and it was excellent.

The original is excellent, not seen remake. Second was a bit disappointing.

I saw the first and third Swedish ones. Kinda generic thriller/mystery type stuff. Didn't particularly like them. Then again I didn't know it was originally a TV show, so the lack of connection between the rape part and the nazi part bugged me.

Alright. I'm told the remake is even better than the original (especially for it's closer to the book). I earlier said the movie is OK, but it was an understatement. It's good, I just have a hard time to really enjoy a movie anymore.
Anyway, I only have two "grudges" with this one:

- The whole thing screams "ADAPTED SCREENPLAY HERE". It's sometimes hard to follow, you almost can see the cuts even without having read the book. Annoying. I hope for a Director's cut, but I think I'm just going to read the book for the whole stuff. As usual.

- The rape scene is too much for me. It's sickening, I can't watch that kind of things anymore. It almost ruined the film for me. "Fun" fact: I read the actor was so disturbed after shooting the rape scene that he spent a whole day locked in his hotel room, crying.

The guy involved? Who plays her guardian?

This is a problem most adapted screenplays have. :(

Yes, him. Source (the last one, just below the spoiler tag) : http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1568346/trivia

Damn... That sounds repulsive. When I was in high school, I sought out transgressive shit but I think I'm over that phase now. Shit like Irreversible with a few more accent marks is just too real. If rape is going to be depicted I guess it should be too real and there is something to be said about displaying it in all its horrors because you can't imagine that without in some ways hearing about it but I can't do it any longer.

Mmm, you guys picked my interest about that Dragon movie. The rape scene was the only good thing about Irreversible.
