Sherlock Holmes - Better than I expected. Jude Law wasn't annoying, RDj made a passable Holmes, Moriaty was suitably cloaked in mystery (I hope they do him proud in the sequel, he was always my favourite character). Would have preferred more time spent on the puzzles than the action, but considering it's a Guy Ritchie film, I suppose the mere presence of puzzles is enough.

The Ghost Writer - Not bad, old-fashioned thriller. Felt Pierce Brosnan was more Paddy Ashdown than Tony Blair, however, he's really not that great an actor.

Just saw that one too. Ewan has turned out to be a great actor, but I agree about Pierce...

Anyway, I really enjoyed it. 7/10 for me.

Up in the Air - I like noticing little details when I watch movies repeatedly.

Good movie.

Another movie filmed in Omaha -- Lovely, Still -- Be prepared to be sad for a few days after watching it though.

Movies I've watched recently:

Akira Kurosawa's "Yojimbo"
"Batman Begins"
"Snatch"
"Django"
"The Expendables"

Yojimbo was great (but it's Kurosawa, so that's to be expected); Batman Begins was good; Snatch is one of my favorite criminal comedy films - Guy Ritchie has a knack for the genre; Django was a pretty typical spaghetti western, albeit with a few interesting plot twists; The Expendables was predictably retarded.

Yojimbo is my favorite Kurosawa movie right behind "Dreams." It's just so much fun.

Either of you see Dersu Uzala? Very simple concept, but beautifully made.

Not me, but I will check it out now that you mention it.

EDIT: Wow, I feel ashamed that I don't know about it, it's apparently quite famous AND was part of a Japanese-Soviet collaborative effort. Gotta watch it sometime soon.

The Fox and the Hound - so good. Just read on imdb that the book it's based off of is even more intense/depressing.

spoilers abt book

This film is loosely based on the Daniel P. Mannix novel of the same. Almost every aspect from the novel was either changed or eliminated entirely. Todd had two vixens that he mates and has cubs with, all of whom are killed by the hunter, Todd intentionally kills The Chief by jumping out of the way of an oncoming train, Todd dies from exhaustion while being chased by Copper, the hunter was an old drunk and the novel ends with the hunter being sent to a retirement home and because dogs aren't allowed he's forced to shoot Copper.

Black Swan

Holy shit. Probably the most frightening/intense movie I've ever seen.
