He used to be but he lost it after It. The reason he was so great is he made his Characters come alive and be real. He was the best at that ever but his stories just lost their steam. I also seriously think he writes the best short stories ever. My mom said "Cell" was a good book but I haven't read it yet. I hate the Dark Tower series btw.

n/r Peaceable Kingdom - Jack Ketchum. Short stories by the king of extreme writing.

Did anyone in this thread say that he was?

If you're looking for horro HP Lovecraft pwns about everyone else I know (not that many).

you know I am just not a Lovecraft guy. You want to read some great old school horror books check out Richard Matheson, especially Duel, Hell House and I am Legend.

I'm not a King fan. I thought Dreamcatcher was fantastic, but the other books I've read by him either take me months to read, or I can't finish them. He can be dreadfully boring sometimes! It's like he just writes without having a story mapped out, and then just pieces shit together and rambles on and on.

Yeah because you read 6th grade level DnD books. I personally thought Dreamcatcher was great until the last 200 pages........but.........if you want to read the real King.....Stand, It, Misery, Carrie, Salems Lot, Pet Sematery, Dead Zone, Different Seasons, Night Shift are all incrediable books.

Steven King may not be too great of a writer, but his great ideas and relatively good handle on characterization make him worth reading. The Stand, It, Pet Semetary, The Shining, The Dark Tower, The Green Mile; all great books.

"Singoalla" by Viktor Rydberg for swedish class. The book is like 150 fucking years old, written in old swedish with long as fuck sentences. Man this won't be a easy read...

If you're going to comment, please get it right. I have read all of Terry Brooks's books, a bunch by R.A. Salvatore and three by David Eddings. Wow. I'm a fantasy nerd, eh?

I read all those books you mentioned, finished most, impressed by none. I'm not a King fan, dude, but I give him a try almost every time.

Just so you know there are two different endings. The first book and then the one out now that has the original ending.

If you like the Stand, please read Swan Song from Robert R McCammon and Carrion Comfort by Dan Simmons, SS is very similiar, CC isn't but same vibe.

Fuck this site is like the only Metal site where dudes don't like extreme horror books you fucking DnD/Sci Fi nerds......:)

I used to be all about the DnD and sci-fi books but now I read stuff about religion and drugs and travelling and India.

or at least that's what the book I'm reading right now is about.

Dude, I've read so much of that shit it started to bore the hell out of me. I stopped reading. I needed something new. Clive Barker's Imajica, Weaveworld, The Great and Secret Show and Everville changed that. If you haven't read those books, do so. That is fantasy that even you could probably dig on! No dragons and shit like that, just straight up weirdness.

Anyway, I just started this:

That was my favourite RA Salvatore book. I hate how he never gets rid of/kills for good any of his major characters ... it makes his books so predictable

Sorry I couldn't stand Weaveworld or TGASS. Anything after Damnation game is the suck. He should have just quit with the Books of Blood.

Pffft! I didn't like Damnation Game. His recent books, Sacrament, Galillee and Cold Heart Canyon, are horrible. Gay is an accurate word. The characters are gay, and the gay sex scenes are just vomit-inducing. Horrible, horrible books.

I'm a big fantasy fan as well...I've read through nine books of the Wheel of Time and at the moment I'm reading Terry Goodkind's Sword of Truth...really good stuff. Of course, I've read other stuff as well but so far these are my favorites. I'm yet to check out anything Brooks or Salvatore, and I've never heard of Eddings...

David Eddings is probably best known for his Belgariad series, which is what I read. It was awesome. I heard his Malloreon series is very good, too. I tried to read his most recent series, The Dreamers, he did with his wife and got half way through book 2 and quit. It was mad boring.

Of course you wouldn't. Your tastes are 90's Cinderella to my 80's Bathory. It is shocking we actually like some of the same fem fronted bands though.
