Well... shit. I surrender. You win James Cameron, Avatar was bloody spectacularly epicly awesome. There's no use nitpicking or complaining about a film like that because once they entered Pandora I became a little kid that just wanted to see more and more and more. Spellbinding, with, in my mind a great story/message.
I want to be blue now.

I knew this or a similar sentiment was forthcoming after seeing your post in the other thread...

I'll never see it, but it was that bad, huh?

It takes a lot more than pretty special effects to impress me, and Avatar was totally devoid of anything that makes a good film in my eyes. It's just a really poor movie.

Raw Deal (1986)

"So ya wanna be a witness, huh? Witness this!"

"Fuck justice!"

"You should not drink and bake"

"Joseph P. Brenner. What's the "P" stand for?"
"Pussy"

Gotta love 80's actioners.

yeah, like I said, I'm 99.999% positive I'll never check it out; doesn't sound like my kind of movie.

That's a bit harsh isn't it? Actually, there's quite a lot in there besides special effects. But it can sometimes backfire and act as an argument against the film when the effects are that dominant (take Transformers for example) but I found them to help the film and move the story forward rather than exist just for the sake of being there. It is supposed to look like another world.

Sure if you start to get bothered with special effects early on in the movie it will be in the way of your enjoyment and perception rather than helping it.
Oh well, it's perfectly fine not to like it at all of course, I'm just glad it blew my expectations out of the water.

Not harsh at all.

The effects were pretty, I'll give it that, but the script, story, and characters were all woefully lacking.

I agree. I recently saw it for the second time. It was great.

Sunshine Cleaning - More dramatic than I thought it would be but pretty good. Emily Blunt is hot.
Barry Lyndon - Only got 40 minutes or so in. Seemed pretty listless.

Yes indeedy.

What did you like about it, Kathy? It just dragged on and on and friggin' on, tiresome film.

Only seen the first, it was very meh. Typical post-Tarantino ooh-look-isn't-this-cool stuff that tries to be deep and intelligent and fails.
