Pour Elle / Anything for Her - Kinda meh French thriller about a guy breaking his wife out of prison. Decent, but never made the cross from good to great.

2012. Everything was just wrong in this film. Rubbish.

Thankfully, I figured this out by watching the previews.

Yeah I had my doubts going into it. I'm glad I didn't see it at the cinema atleast.

Wow, I'm looking at Roland Emmerich's history now on imdb. No wonder I loved Independence day when it came out. I was nine years old back then... Yet, somehow, I would still enjoy it today, it had something special about it. Saving humanity and engaging the viewer in a way that they actually cared what the hell happened, fun Will Smith, splendid effects for it's time and still somewhat breaking new ground with the story telling and all.
2012 just didn't have any qualities at all.

Yeah, Independence Day was pretty groundbreaking. I mean, how many sci-fi movies had aliens that ran their entire military force of space ships on Windows? With no Norton or McAffe at that!

The Taking Of Pelham One Two Three - Badass film. Robert Shaw and Walter Matthau are so much better than John Travolta and Denzel Washington look from the trailer of the remake.

Watching 'The Bourne Ultimatum.' This is one of the best trilogies out there.

(500) Days of Summer - Very cunning and smart romantic comedy kinda deal. I was expecting it to be nifty and cute and it was but by the end I was quite impressed.

Yep

It's a film about a small group of humans fighting off an army of angels. It is clearly not meant to be treated in the same way as Kurosawa, ffs. Why can't people enjoy bad films for their badness?

See where I am going with this?

Yeah, but presumably you watch mainstream films that are actually shit, as opposed to ones like this which are generally bags of fun? Our definition of shit probably varies, but I'd much rather see Legion than, say, the latest unfunny bollocks from Will Ferrell or the Taking Of Pelham 123 remake.

I just imagined how cool Kurosawa directing a movie about humans fighting off angels would be and peed myself a little. Legion looked like it might be fun in a ridiculous Crank kinda way.

They did? Nice, never noticed that. :D
The aliens are not alone in that though I'm afraid. Using Windows and compromising security that is.

Not literally. I was just pointing out one of the silliest plot devices I've probably ever seen in a movie:

"Hey, let's develop a computer virus and bring it to the alien's starship system! Guaranteed success!"

Very very silly movie. Fun to watch to make fun of, if anything.

I watched "The Hurt Locker" last night, I actually enjoyed watching it! No real plot development, haha, but watching bomb squad stuff is always fun.
It was a good rental.

I'm going to see Legion tonight.

I always just saw it as a contemporary reworking of HG Wells' flu in War of the Worlds.

I think you are giving the person responsible for slobbering out this insulting, quasi-patriotic nonsense waaayyy too much credit...

this is the same guy that wrote 2012, The Day After Tommorrow, etc., after all... big on explosions, not so much on well thought out plot development.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2

The comedic sequel! It was significantly less "dirty" than the first film, which had a great gritty/1970s aesthetic going for it. This film didn't have that. It did have Leatherface in love, though. Which was something to behold. The whole scene of him cutting off the one guy's face and putting it onto the heroine's, as to make her more appealing to him was rather perverse. And then the faceless man got up and wandered around for a bit. I get the feeling that in a room full of people that scene would have been hilarious in a Visitor Q, uncomfortable-hilarious kind of way. Unfortunately, I watched it by myself, so I while I could appreciate the humor in the audacity of it, I wasn't exactly laughing-out-loud. Also, the scene seems to be have been an "inspiration" on Rob Zombie. Shocking, I know.

Watched Drag Me To Hell. A great horror movie after a long time. Also watched The Unborn, Mirrors and 1408. Didn't like 1408 that much, but liked the other two.
