But Call of Duty has a dog you can control!

Destiny and Titanfall look cool, so does The Division, but these online focused games are getting to be a little concerning. Although the Destiny demo looked awesome. Running through the story mode then all of a sudden a whole bunch of human controlled players appear and you fight some big ass monster as a team all unrelated to the main story. Kill it, then continue on with your mission. That looked cool.

Nearly preordered a PS4 at a dull point during work, but decided to hang on to make sure the first batch don't explode when you turn them on, etc...

Good call, both the Xbox 360 and the PS3 had serious problems at release which could only be fixed by buying a new one.

Funny how that works. Original Xbox the power chords caught on fire.

I recently finished Medal of Honor, the remake from a couple of years back. What a shabby game, I'm glad I only paid a couple of euro for it.

Now playing Spec Ops: The Line, nearly through the campaign. Pretty good game, actually. Lots of explicity though.

Finished Spec Ops: The Line. Pretty good story for a shooter, actually. It satisfied my occasional shoot 'em up cravings but it's not a game I'll be playing again soon. Still, summer sales are inbound on Steam so if you can get it for 5 euro then I say go for it.

Are you talking about MOH from 2010 in which you shoot Talibans or is there a real remake of the original 1999 MOH out there???

Yeah, 'remake' wasn't really the best term, was it? I meant the 'revisitation' of the MoH brand from 2010. I did play Allied Assault again a couple of months back, though. Still awesome.

A couple of years ago I would have agreed with the article, but things are changing rapidly. Mainstream gaming is definitely dead. Games are getting emptier (more achievements!) and easier, but that's only true for the AAA games. If you take a look at the games that are being funded through Kickstarter or given an audience through Steam Greenlight you'll notice the games are actually evolving. Back in the nineties the future of gaming looked very bright, then gaming went mainstream and everything turned into shit. Now we're picking up from where we left off in the early 00s. Even roguelikes, which are some of the toughest games out there, are gaining popularity.

True enough. For the last decade, the focus lay with increasingly realistic graphics to the detriment of gameplay. Now that we're quite near to photorealistic graphics (see the BF4 trailers for example) I'm hoping we'll see a shift to better storytelling again. Spec Ops: The Line is far from perfect, but its superior story is a breath of fresh air in the oversaturated military shooter genre.

It's Kotaku, their entire raison d'etre is controversial stuff that'll get lots of clicks and boost advertising revenues. No, videogames are not going to collapse in on themselves as people gloriously embrace boardgames, incredible as it may seem.

Anyone else following the Steam summer sale? I've picked up a few bits and bobs already: Demigod, Torchlight 2, Hotline: Miami and some dlc here and there.

Assassins Creed III - The voice acting is terrible.

State of Decay - awesome but has a few glitches. Where's co-op?

Pokemon Platinum - because I'm a mature adult

Animal Crossing: New Leaf - see above

Tomb Raider - fun but frustrating

(The gameboy games are just time killers when I'm working)

I wish they'd release those motherfucking Nintendo games on Steam, would buy them in a heart beat.

Tl2 is fun with friends, for a while. Demigod, sadly, was released in that weird Moba vacuum years after Dota was released but before LoL got huge. I thought Demigod had a fair bit of potential when it was released, but it sold poorly and was never supported by the developers. I really enjoyed playing Rook with the tower build.

Yes, Demigod was fun. I wish there were more games that expanded on the dota-genre. I love the ones where you can upgrade towers and creeps. Although, most of them are wc3-maps.

Nope, engrossed in Total War: Rome 2 since yesterday. And will be for quite some time.
