Dark Elf

yeah I know it's not a huge amount of time but I rarely have the time to play so I'm pretty happy to have even managed that many

I think I sunk about 75 hours into my first character, and I finished the main quest, the fighters guild questline and various other major quests plus some mucking around in randomly generated dungeons. So yeah, the game is probably going to last a bit for you.

I've actually been quite surprised, normally I don't go for games in that RPG style opting instead for fighters and shooters or driving games but I've enjoyed Skyrim a lot when I have played it

You have a loooonnnnnggg way to go. I'm at 120 hours, haven't even finished the main quest.

Got distracted a long while ago anyway. About 70 hours into Borderlands 2 at the moment.

I'm pouring the little spare time I have to play games into Halo 4 lately, personally think the campaign is a little weak compared to the previous trilogy, probably a bit weaker then Reach as well, multiplayer is the usual Halo brilliance though

General q: what sites do people trust for reviews? Generally stick to IGN for first impressions and try demos etc but be good if there's a better resource that I'm missing...

I only ever read IGN. I know there's better ones like kotaku or gamespy or whatever, but I can access IGNs mobile site on my phone and I've been a member since 2005. I don't post in the forums, but I do know a lot of the reviewers who've been there a while. I dont look at the scores though as they are generally too high. But the reviews can be well written.

Go IGN!

I tend to stay away from sites like IGN and Kotaku. They over rate popular games and give short shrift to pretty much everything else. Check out Erik Kain, he does a video game blog (including terrific reviews) for Forbes.com and he's not afraid to say it like it is. To me, this man is to video games what Ebert is to movies.

Yes, the overrating was getting a bit annoying. And your last sentence means I definitely have to check this out, cheers!

If you're checking review sites for some number that somebody you don't know gave something you may want to check out, well, you're doing it wrong. It's like caring about the numbers you guys put on albums here, that's your number, not everybody else's. So who cares if IGN over scores? Read the reviews and base your own opinion.

Reviews might be biased in those sites, you know? It's a billions of dollars business. Reviews in MR's is a whole different thing.

Well, the overrating was one part, but the reviews didn't always strike me brilliantly either. Wasn't there a fuss at Gamespot when someone quit out of protest at them reviewing games better than they were? I'm just naturally suspicious, I s'pose.

This site has some interesting stuff, such as this on the Witcher 2:

http://www.grantland.com/story/_/id/787 ... -witcher-2

which I have enjoyed a lot more than the writer did, but I can see what his issues are, even if I don't agree/find them as important...

This is excellent. Mild spoiler alert for Spec Ops: The Line, which I haven't played, but now really want to.

No he didn't quit. He got fired. And it was the other way around - he gave it a low score. He gave a game a 6.5 and a brutally honest review and got fired. Makes the whole reviewing industry look veerrrryyyyy bad. Paid off by the publishers much?

And with IGN giving scores like 10 for GTA4, which was a deeply flawed game, it becomes very difficult to know who to trust and who's paid off. They also just have a 9.8 to Halo 4 and calling it "bar-raising for the entire first person genre". Halo 4 is a good, solid game. But it has literally 0 innovations and deserves no more than a solid 8.5. Calling it bar-raising for the genre is borderline ridiculous.

Yep, that was it. Awful memory, me.

Yeah. I have people telling me Halo 4 is amazing, but aside from the prettiness I don't see what it does differently to the other Halo games, none of which I've ever gotten into.
